Cherokee County Conservation Board Who We Are

The Cherokee County Conservation Board (CCCB) is a five-member, voluntary panel of citizens appointed by the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors.

Each member typically serves a five-year term, and may be reappointed for consecutive terms. The CCCB meets monthly, usually on the 2nd Monday. Meetings are open to the public and agendas are posted at the Cherokee County Courthouse and the CCCB headquarters prior to the meetings. The CCCB employs four full-time staff, as well as up to four summer aides. Staff are chosen based on their experience

and education, their ability to work with the public, and their desire to keep Cherokee County's parks in excellent condition. The staff makes environmental education a priority, and has the knowledge and experience to answer many questions about the parks, local wildlife, plants and natural history. What We Do

What a week! Staff spent all week removing fallen trees and branches from several parks due to Sunday night's storm. Priorities were roadways, campsites, and rental facilities. We haven't finished cleaning up parks or trails and definitely didn't have an opportunity to mow. The only property currently closed is Licklider Shooting Complex. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

UPDATE: The tree has been removed and the north gate at Martin's is now open!

Sorry! A new tree fell across the road. We'll get the gate open as soon as we can. We're still working on downed trees in other parks.

Due to last night's storm, the shooting range is closed temporarily until we can clean it up.

The Jr. Naturalist program is one of our favorites, allowing us to see preschoolers in each school district within Cherokee County!

River Valley Preschool's naturalist Ms.Laura came once a month throughout the year and taught us about many different topics. She taught us about birds, spiders, hibernation, reindeer, animal tracks, animal teeth, water cycle, and about turtles. The kids really enjoyed having her. She would read us a book about that topic and would play games with us, have real animal artifacts for us to touch and see. She also sometimes had something for us to make after she was done teaching us about a topic. She made them Jr.naturalist certificates for completing all the topics this year.
