🚧 Speed Limit Reduced on C38 in Cherokee County 🚧

The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors has approved Resolution No. 2026-18, reducing the speed limit on a portion of County Road C38.

The new speed limit of 45 miles per hour will apply from the Cherokee city limits east to the intersection with State Highway 3 (the ski hill), for both eastbound and westbound traffic. The change was made following a review by the County and a recommendation from the Cherokee County Engineer to improve safety and provide more consistent traffic conditions.

The reduced speed limit will become enforceable once appropriate signage has been installed.

A couple of reminders now that the weather is getting warmer:

1. We understand the benefits of ditch burning, including w**d and brush control, and we know many of you have responsibly done this in the past. However, during ditch burning, we often see damage to wood posts and fiberglass culvert markers. If you are burning near these, please take a moment to protect them by dumping one or two buckets of water on and around the posts and markers.

2. We work very hard to keep all address signs visible, straight, and reflective. These 911 signs are critical for emergency responders trying to quickly locate properties. Please help us by keeping bushes, volunteer trees, and other obstructions cleared away from these signs. If a sign or post is bumped by mowing or other activities, we ask that you try to straighten it if possible. These signs should be positioned perpendicular to the adjacent road for maximum visibility. Remember these signs are in place for your safety. If a sign or post is damaged beyond repair, please contact our office so we can address it promptly.

Thank you for your cooperation and help in keeping our community safe!

Attention Cherokee County Travelers:

Cherokee County will be pulling snowplows from the roads today around 3:00-3:30 p.m. As temperatures drop and daylight fades, road conditions may still be hazardous, so please use caution if you must travel this evening.

Our crews will be back out tomorrow morning to continue snow removal operations.

Please drive safely and allow extra time when traveling. Thank you for your patience while our crews work to keep roads as safe as possible.
