On July 28, 2026, the Chehalis Police Department received a referral from the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) regarding a Green Hill School staff member potentially smuggling contraband into the facility and distributing it to residents.
Our department contacted Green Hill School regarding the investigation and was informed we would be required to submit a public records request through DCYF in order to obtain the information needed to assist with the investigation.
On August 19, 2026, we were advised our public records request for the investigative information was denied by DCYF. In order to obtain the necessary information, the Chehalis Police Department applied for and was granted a search warrant for the requested records.
On August 25 2026, the Chehalis Police Department served the search warrant at Green Hill School and are awaiting a response regarding the search warrant.
At this time, we do not know why DCYF referred potential criminal activity involving a staff member to our agency and then refused to provide us with the information necessary to properly conduct an investigation, requiring the use of a search warrant to obtain those records. It is our position that cooperation between our agencies is necessary to ensure the safety of staff and residents inside the facility.
The name of the suspected staff member is being withheld, as the investigation remains ongoing. This case remains under investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
