Claquato Church Renovation Update
The work on the outside of the historic Claquato Church is well underway!
Right now, the focus is on some of the most important—and least glamorous—parts of the restoration: carefully removing layers of old paint, repairing damaged siding, and replacing boards that can no longer be saved.
As the paint comes off, we're getting a much better look at the condition of the original wood underneath. Each section has to be evaluated individually so that as much historic material as possible can be preserved, while making the necessary repairs to protect the building for many years to come.
It may not look like much of a transformation yet, but this is an important step in bringing the church back to a condition worthy of its history.
More progress photos to come as the work continues!

A little piece of Claquato has made its way to the WSFDA Annual Convention this week at the beautiful Swinomish Casino in Anacortes.
The Claquato Church is hosting an information booth, sharing the history of this remarkable 1858 landmark and highlighting the preservation work currently underway to protect it for future generations.
It's been wonderful reconnecting with so many familiar faces and friends from across the state. One of the highlights has been Contessa King's informative presentation on restorative art. Her knowledge, passion, and impeccable craftsmanship are truly inspiring. We've also enjoyed visiting with our friends at Raise for Rowyn, who have a booth at the convention.
We're grateful for the opportunity to share the story of this special piece of our community's history and connect with others who are passionate about preservation and service.

Another exciting step in the restoration of the historic Claquato Church.
This week, multiple trees were removed and others were thinned to improve the health of the property, increase sunlight and airflow, and better showcase the church. A big thank you to the expertise of Hatchet Man Tree Service LLC for their excellent work and care throughout the project.
With that phase complete, work will soon move on to a new perimeter fence, paint removal, building repairs, and eventually a fresh coat of paint.
We're excited to see this preservation project continue moving forward, one step at a time!

We’re excited to share that the new roof at the Claquato Church is nearing completion! This was a critical project, and thanks to the support of several generous donors—along with significant funding from the cemetery—we were able to address it before any major issues arose.
A special thank you to Christian's Roofing for taking on this careful and important work.
We’re glad to see this project coming together and appreciate everyone who helped make it happen. Stay tuned for Phase 2—siding and paint!
