Bellevue Fire Company Founded in 1948 Bellevue Fire Company began just after the end of WWII in 1947. On one attempt, the treasurer stole the money and moved to Ohio to live.

Several groups had attempted to start a fire company in the previous years, but failed. Another attempt saw the six hundred dollars of the treasury lost when the Bank of Depew failed due to poor management. At that time, the only fire protection was if a fire broke out, a call was made to a neighboring fire commissioner. A fee of about $35.00 was required but no guarantee there would be an answer

to the call. It was a fire on Bellevue Blvd that prompted another attempt. The fire was extinguished by throwing shovels of snow on it and right then it was decided to start a fire company. They agreed to meet that very night and neighbors were called to attend. Unfortunately only seven people showed up for the meeting. Lack of attendance was caused by either poor communication or the feeling it would fail again. Needless to say the group was pretty disgusted. The group had little knowledge of how to start a fire company, but after many glasses of refreshments and many arguments on how to organize, the group set out to do so anyway and in 1962 the fire company became the Bellevue Fire District #9 and five members were appointed fire commissioners and then elected for their appropriate terms. Since that time Bellevue Fire District #9 has been serving and protecting the citizens of their district with honor and pride.

This baby has been with us since Gangnam Style first went viral. Here we’ve got the hardest working “big truck” in the fleet. Bellevue Engine 2 took over the role of our first due attack engine when we retired our Engine 1 back in 2023. She’s always been our go-to mutual aid pumper, and previously serving as our second due “hydrant” rig. This 2013 Typhoon class pumper can move some serious water. It’s equipped with right around 750 gallons of water, a boat load of hose to handle pretty much anything, and a full complement of tools to get the job done. Always ready to work 💪.

Another one looking fine and ready for the white glove test. Equipped with a 400 gallon tank, a “fly by wire” front mounted nozzle, scene lighting, emergency pumps, and a whole lot of specialty wild-land equipment; Bellevue Engine 4 is a do-it-all apparatus. It has the ability to pump and roll, making an unstoppable force for off road applications, weather emergencies, and more. It also acts as our secondary EMS unit.

A: As pretty as it is today.

Interesting side note, the current internet famous “Iris” was a top hit in September of 1998 when this beauty was built.

While our apparatus and equipment are regularly maintained, this tradition dates back to our earliest days and brings an added sense of pride as we put the finishing touches on every truck, tool, and piece of equipment.
