βοΈ Position Overview:
Deputies with Cheboygan County are responsible for maintaining public safety, enforcing state and local laws, preventing crime, and building positive relationships throughout the community. Deputies patrol urban areas, rural roadways, waterfront regions, and seasonal tourism destinations across the county.

Key Responsibilities:
π Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, foot, or specialized unit
π¨ Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls
π΅οΈ Conduct investigations and prepare detailed reports
βοΈ Enforce traffic and criminal laws
β€οΈ Assist citizens during medical, weather, or public safety emergencies
π€ Participate in community outreach and educational programs
ποΈ Testify in court proceedings when required
π Work collaboratively with neighboring agencies and emergency responders

π Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
π Minimum age of 21 years
π High school diploma or GED
π Valid Michigan driverβs license
π MCOLES licensed or eligible for licensure

Ability to pass:
π Background investigation
πͺ Physical fitness standards
π§ͺ Drug screening
π§ Psychological evaluation
Preferred Qualifications:
πΊπΈ Prior law enforcement, military, EMS, or corrections experience
π MCOLES Certified, Associateβs, or Bachelorβs degree in criminal justice or related field
π£οΈ Strong communication and problem-solving skills
π€ Commitment to ethical policing and community engagement
π° Compensation & Benefits:
π΅ Competitive starting wage with step increases
π² Starting $53,081, top pay third year $69,369
π Previous experience may be eligible for a step increase inside the pay scale
