The last week of April and the month of May have once again been full of fun, flexibility, and plenty of memories for 4-H K9 Club.
Between the ice, snow, wind, recent flooding in our community, and weather that has definitely kept us guessing, this has been quite the season for dog club.
One thing our members and families (and leaders) have learned? Always be ready for Plan B!
Over the past few weeks, members gathered for a poster night at co-leader Jody’s house, followed by what we lovingly dubbed a “Willy Nilly Agility” night at co-leader Tracy’s house. Club was originally planned indoors, but when Mother Nature surprised us with a beautiful evening, we made a last-minute decision to head outside and practice agility for the very first time this year. Sometimes the best nights are the unplanned ones.
We were also excited to showcase and highlight our K9 Club during the very first 4-H Silent Auction and Demonstrations event. Handler Leah and her canine partner Maggie did a wonderful job representing our club, answering questions, and sharing their love of dogs and 4-H with the community.
Of course, with the ever-changing weather, our plans have continued to shift from week to week. One evening we fully expected to practice outdoor agility, but instead pivoted indoors at Tracy’s and spent the night working on posters and record books. Around here, we just roll with it.
Looking ahead, we are excited for evenings at the fairgrounds where we will continue practicing agility, building teamwork with our dogs, and preparing for our upcoming dog show at the fair.
