Public Safety Advisory: Off-Campus Vehicle Break-Ins

On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) responded to the 1100 block of E. 10th Street for a reported vehicle break-in. At approximately 4:45 a.m., CPD was called back to the area, at which time numerous additional vehicles were found to have been burglarized.

This incident is actively under investigation by the Chattanooga Police Department.

Saturday was a tough loss for Chattanooga Football on the field, but the UTC Dept of Public Safety, UTC Police Department, and LIFE FORCE Air Medical teams were there all game long to help keep our Mocs community safe.

UTC Community:

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory for the Chattanooga / Hamilton County area for Wednesday, September 2, 2026 from 1:00 PM through 8:00 PM. Hot temperatures and high humidity are expected, with the heat index values exceeding 105°F. This advisory may be extended through Friday as similar conditions are expected.

Please practice heat safety by staying hydrated, limiting time outdoors, and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours. If you must be outdoors, wear lightweight clothing and take frequent breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned location. For more information or to view current conditions, visit weather.gov.

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, at approximately 9:00 AM, the UTC Police Department received a report of a possible Sexual Exploitation incident. The victim, a UTC student, reported sharing intimate videos online with an individual they believed to be anonymous. That individual then threatened to release the videos unless the student paid them.

This incident is actively under investigation by the UTC Police Department.

Behind every safe campus is a team working tirelessly behind the scenes.

Over the past year, the UTC Dept of Public Safety Environmental Health & Safety team has enhanced emergency preparedness by upgrading and maintaining critical safety equipment across campus. From first aid kits, AEDs, and bleeding control kits to emergency eyewash stations, safety showers, and laboratory safety equipment, each resource is routinely inspected, tested, serviced, and restocked to ensure it’s ready when it’s needed most.

Most people walk past this equipment every day without giving it a second thought, and that’s exactly how preparedness should work. When an emergency occurs, these resources need to be ready, and thanks to the dedication of our EHS team, they are.

Please join us in recognizing the outstanding work of our Environmental Health & Safety team for helping make UTC a safer place to learn, work, and visit. 🩹🧯🥽
