We worked a grass fire yesterday down by camp Lu-Jo Kismif and would like to thank the following agencies for their help: Chattanooga Fire, Comanche Nation Fire, Walter's Fire, Pecan Creek Fire, Comanche County Sheriff's Office, Cotton County Sheriff's Office, Cotton County graders, Cotton County Emergency Management, Cotton Electric, and all the farmers that helped to extinguish this fire. Please continue to exercise extreme caution as conditions continue to grow worse due to the lack of rain and the temperatures.

Comanche County and the rest of Southwest Oklahoma are in a severe drought, with weeks of triple digit heat, and a burn ban is currently in effect. A wildfire pretty close to our office recently burned several homes, and multiple propane tanks were involved due to dry grass and debris built up around them.

When vegetation surrounds a propane tank, fire burns hotter and longer against it. That sustained heat is what triggers a tank’s safety valve to release, producing the large flames you may have seen.

Action needed. Clear at least ten feet around every propane tank, no grass, no brush, no stacked materials. But don’t stop there. Walk your whole property. Cleared, mowed space around your house, sheds, and outbuildings gives a fire less to burn and less reason to linger, which can mean the difference between it passing through and it spreading.

Don’t wait until a fire is already burning nearby, the time to prepare is now. Clear it out and give firefighters something they can defend.

Protect your family and your neighbors. Please continue to Pray for those that are affected by these devastating wildfires.

August has been a busy month for us, and September isn’t looking much better. We are truly blessed by the support our community continues to show us at every fundraiser.

After getting back from the fires yesterday and servicing the trucks for the next call, it’s hard not to notice the fuel bill. Large fires can cost us $100–$150 in fuel per truck, and with 4–6 trucks responding, it adds up quickly.

We can’t thank our community enough for always supporting us. Please support your local Fire Department whenever they have a fundraiser! 🚒🔥

It’s been a busy day for Chatty FD! 🚒

We’d like to give a huge thanks to Brink Auction Service for the generous donation of water! We truly appreciate the support from our local businesses and community. And don’t forget to check out their upcoming Fall Consignment Sale!

Volunteer firefighters are more than just firefighters and medical personnel. We’re mechanics, welders, Mr. Fix-Its, and problem solvers. When something needs to be fixed, we’ll figure it out or know who to call to get it done! 💪

🔥 Reminder: Please be aware of the current burn bans and just how dry conditions are. It doesn’t take much for a small fire to turn into a big one. Please stay safe and help us prevent fires!

🔥Cotton County is now in a burn ban🔥

🔥 COTTON COUNTY BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥

The Cotton County Board of County Commissioners has issued a county-wide burn ban effective August 10, 2026, due to dry and hazardous fire conditions.

đźš« Outdoor burning, campfires, bonfires, and fireworks are prohibited. Certain cooking, welding, road construction, agricultural, and prescribed-burning activities are allowed only under the conditions outlined in the resolution.

The burn ban may remain in effect for up to 14 days and will be reviewed based on fire conditions.

Please take this seriously. Our fire departments have already responded to numerous fires under extreme heat and dry conditions. Help us prevent the next one. 🔥🚒
