Saturday Work Day! Planting Native Species!

We need your help this Saturday, from 10 to about noon, to help with the native species planting project. During this work session, the primary task will be to move and spread mulch onto areas where another work group already planted native shrubs. This will help keep the new plants alive and thriving!

Please meet at the top of High Ridge Drive.

Please bring gloves and water as well as a sturdy garden rake, if you have one.

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

There's a River Rocks trail run race on Stringer's Saturday morning. They haven't informed us of the route, so we can't be specific and don't know if they're following the directional signs, but there will be volunteer marshalls. Please be careful if you're riding out there--and please keep dogs on leashes!

Our ridge runners group came across an access card on the switchback on Valdeau Crossing (the foot only trail that connects Choo Choo to Gig City). We put it in the key hole in the sculpture with the map at the Bell trailhead. The card was white, said Honeywell, and had a sticker that said Coors.

Logging cardio in the form of hiking can lower blood pressure by four to 10 points and reduce the danger of heart disease, diabetes and strokes. And hiking downhill is effective at removing blood sugars and improving glucose tolerance.

John Muir was onto something when he said, "In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks." Hikers battle bug bites, blisters and bruises for the sake of overcoming a challenge and enjoying some quality time with nature. Bu...
