🦆💚 From rescue to release!
Here’s a little recap of some of the wood ducklings and mallard we received and cared for this baby season. Watching these tiny ducklings grow, thrive, and finally reach the day they were ready to return to the wild is what wildlife rehabilitation is all about.

They were recently released back where they belong—wild and free! 🌿🦆

Every intake has a story, and every successful release makes all the hard work worth it. 💚

These three Carolina Wrens bring our total to an incredible 90 wrens released back into the wild so far this baby season! 💚

Each one came through our care with the same goal—to grow strong, healthy, and ready for life back where they belong. Seeing them return to the wild is what it’s all about!

🕸️🐦 Even a spider web can be dangerous for a tiny hummingbird!

We recently received this little hummingbird after its feet became tangled in a spider web. Because hummingbirds are so small and delicate, they can quickly become exhausted or injured while struggling to free themselves.

Thankfully, this little one made it to us for the care it needed. ❤️

It’s a reminder that even something as ordinary as a spider web can become a dangerous situation for our smallest wildlife.

Soras can be surprisingly difficult to spot even when they’re only a few feet away—they’re experts at slipping silently through thick marsh vegetation!

• 🐦 Soras are small marsh birds in the rail family, with short tails, long toes, and chicken-like movements.
• 🌾 They live in freshwater marshes and wetlands, especially areas thick with cattails and reeds.

We’ve had the honor of welcoming Joel Sartore to Camp Wildernest Wildlife Center, where he has photographed some of the wildlife that has come through our doors upon their release. 📸🐦❤️

Joel’s dedication to documenting the incredible diversity of animals around the world is truly inspiring. Through his photography, he brings attention to species both big and small and reminds us why every life is worth protecting.

We are so grateful that some of our very own intakes have had the opportunity to be photographed and released as part of his amazing work. Congratulations, Joel, on 18,000 portraits and 20 years of the Photo Ark! What an incredible accomplishment! 🌎📸🐾

Joel Sartore photographs like he's running out of time.

The man behind National Geographic Photo Ark, an extraordinary collection of 18,000 animal portraits and counting, is 20 years into a project that stretches beyond the horizon. Four years ago, when CNN last interviewed Sartore, he'd produced 13,000 portraits. Since then he's added another 5,000. The 64-year-old is speeding up.
