DeRetta Rhodes is the Executive Vice President and Chief People and Culture Officer for the Atlanta Braves, where she makes it a priority to support employees in the roles they play both in and outside of the workplace.

Before the United for Working Families Summit, DeRetta shared her own struggles as a working parent in a room of 60+ local CEOs, founders, and regional leaders. Her story inspired attendees to lead with empathy and to hold space for a deeper understanding of the challenges many families in our community face.

Dolly Parton's legacy is one brimming with love. Her influence has been felt far and wide, so much so that it even showed up at our 2026 United for Working Families Summit last week.

During his keynote, Eugene Naughton, President of The Dollywood Company, shared, "Dolly has always been an inspiration to me. She's as much a friend as a boss." This loving leadership is evident in the way Dollywood cares for its employees, too.

From free meals and affordable housing to helping employees pursue a college degree, Dollywood makes it a priority to show up for its workforce with exceptional care.

From her music to the way she did business, Dolly showed us that success and generosity go hand in hand. Her legacy lives on because of the way she treated people.

Thank you, Eugene, for sharing a bit of Dolly's unifying love with us last week. As we remember Dolly, we're grateful for the way her legacy continues to inspire all of us to say, "I see you," and truly mean it.

A thriving community takes all of us.💫

Our funded nonprofit partners are at the heart of this belief. Together, we create an ecosystem of support in Chattanooga. Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to come together with these incredible partners for our annual Funded Partner Breakfast.

It was a chance to reconnect, build new relationships, and learn from one another as we focus on supporting ALICE families in our community. The energy in the room was inspiring, reminding us just how much is possible when we come together around a shared purpose.

This summer, we celebrated the one-year mark of our Impact Cohort!

This three-year collaborative, fueled by a $6.6 million investment from United Way, is made up of 19 all-star local nonprofits. By sharing resources, learnings, and expertise, this group uses each other's distinctive strengths to amplify our shared work: building an ecosystem of support in our community, and especially for our local ALICE families.

In just one year, collaboration has already led to exciting new initiatives. The YMCA and Crabtree Farms are helping bring fresh food to families throughout the summer. The Chattanooga Area Food Bank and Signal Centers are creating workforce pathways, while Chattanooga 2.0 and Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise are strengthening family engagement in Alton Park. And this just skims the surface.
