LEPC,

Our exercise was a big success today. The scenario involved a traffic incident between a tanker truck carrying toluene and a speeding car. The tanker rolled on to its side causing toluene to leak and the car hit a natural gas line assembly causing it to leak and ignite. Both the tanker leak and natural gas fire were within the confines of the SOFIX compound.

Participants were SOFIX staff, Chattanooga Fire Department, Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management, and observers.

Sofix staff started the exercise by initiating their emergency protocols and calling 911. Then they initiated mitigation of the toluene leak and evacuated their facility. 911 dispatched Chattanooga Fire Department. Upon arrival SOFIX staff briefed the firefighters on the situation and the firefighters accessed the situation, initiated an area evacuation, extinguished the natural gas fire, mitigated the natural gas leak, mitigated the toluene leak, extricated the driver of the car, and treated the injured.

We were able to run two Chattanooga Fire Companies through the exercise where they received valuable training extinguishing a simulated natural gas fire and mitigating a tanker leak.

Approximately fifty observers were able to witness the training and interact with the emergency responders.

Thank you to all involved for the exceptional training today. Thank you Sofix for sponsoring the exercise.

Mark
