More than 300 adventurers passed through the Carters Lake project area during Paddle Georgia 2026, a multi-day, 90-mile journey along the Coosawattee, Oostanaula and Etowah rivers.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park rangers supported recreation operations throughout the event and coordinated with local partners, including Murray County Fire Department, to help provide a safe experience for participants as they launched from Carters Lake and continued downstream.

Join the FIND Educator at the Oak Ridge Nature Trail for a guided walk exploring the native (and non-native) plants blooming at the start of summer! Native plant field guides will be available to help visitors identify flowers and other plants along the trail. The trailhead is located next to the day-use fee machine at Woodring Day Use. This is a moderate-rated hike, so be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes and come prepared to enjoy the beauty of the season.

Where do your park fees go?

At Carters Lake, recreation fees collected at participating parks are reinvested directly back into those same recreation areas. That means funding for maintenance, repairs, facility upgrades, and future improvements that benefit visitors.

As visitation grows, so does the ability to invest in the places people come to enjoy.

Your visit helps improve the parks you love.

🚧 PUBLIC NOTICE – Damsite Boat Ramp 🚧

Beginning Wednesday, June 3 through Friday, June 6, the approach loop at the Damsite Boat Ramp will be temporarily closed to allow for the installation of concrete curbing to address ditch washout issues.

The boat ramps will remain open during construction; however, trailer maneuvering may be restricted while work is underway. Boaters are encouraged to consider using alternate boat ramps during this period to avoid delays and congestion.

We anticipate reopening the approach loop on Friday afternoon, June 6, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete these improvements.
