There is nothing worse as an educator than to lose a student. And sadly our small school district has lost its third student in only a few months. With that being said, it is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our students, Hunter Reed.

Hunter passed away last night, and our Career Tech family is deeply saddened by this loss.

Hunter was a junior at McIntosh High School and a valued member of our welding program. He was a great student—hardworking, motivated, kind, and polite. Hunter was also a talented athlete who played baseball, basketball, and football, and he was truly well loved by all who knew him.

We extend our deepest condolences to his parents, family, classmates, teachers, friends, and our entire community. Please keep them, and our Career Tech family, in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Hunter will be greatly missed and always remembered.

The first group of the WCCTC Health Science students began their first rotation of clinicals today at the Washington County Nursing Home. These six Leroy High School students are one step closer to a CNA Certification. Looking forward to all of their accomplishments and futures in the medical field. Thank you to the nursing home staff for allowing our wonderful students this opportunity and to Mrs Stephanie King, instructor, for her dedication to this program.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
I wanted to bring to your attention a concerning trend circulating on TikTok and other social media platforms that poses a significant threat to student safety and school property.
This trend involves inserting metal objects, such as paper clips or pushpins, into Chromebook charging ports or internal components to intentionally cause electrical short circuits. This behavior can result in sparks, battery damage, fires, and serious injury.
Any student found participating in this behavior will be fined the full replacement cost of the Chromebook, $350, and may face disciplinary action in accordance with Board Policies. There are consequences for willful damage to school property, including possible legal action and loss of device privileges. Expectations for appropriate use of district-issued devices are also detailed in the Washington County Schools Chromebook Policy, available on the district website.
We'd like to ask for your help in discussing the dangers of this behavior with your child and reinforcing the importance of treating school property with care and responsibility.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with your child's school office for assistance.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Curtis Kirkland
Superintendent of Washington County Schools
