The Borough of Chatham will hold its annual September 11th Remembrance Ceremony tomorrow, Friday, September 11, 2026, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The ceremony will take place at the September 11th Memorial in Memorial Park, located on North Passaic Avenue behind the Library of the Chathams. To accommodate additional attendees and provide an alternative viewing location, the Chatham Borough 9/11 Memorial Committee will simulcast the ceremony live on a large viewing screen at Reasoner Park. Residents may gather at either Memorial Park or Reasoner Park to participate in this community-wide observance.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The ceremony will honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives that day, including 13 Chatham residents. It will also recognize the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the first responders, members of the armed forces, volunteers, and countless others who answered the call to serve.
By providing two gathering locations, the 9/11 Memorial Committee hopes to give more members of the community the opportunity to come together for this solemn evening of remembrance, reflection, and unity.
Following the short ceremony at Memorial Park, attendees will be invited to process to Reasoner Park, for the program's conclusion. All participants and attendees are invited to stay after the event for an ice cream social hosted by the Chatham Borough 9/11 Memorial Committee at Reasoner Park/Firehouse Plaza.
Residents of all ages are encouraged to attend. The ceremony will be held rain or shine, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
