We will remember Pat Grattan ( October 1954 to March 2024), not as a great leader (which he was) or a great attorney (which he also was) but as a great man who with a ready smile and a wit for days showed compassion and a readiness to do the right thing by his fellow man. We are saddened by this loss, but he leaves behind a great legacy of public service, over 30 years, which included time as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Mayor of Valatie and Supervisor of the county's largest town, Kinderhook. Pat served with honesty and as a dedicated individual who always conducted himself with the highest level of integrity. He also leaves a lasting legacy as a warm family-oriented man who enjoyed working about the home he shared with his wife and daughter, almost as much as he enjoyed the law.
He had great stories, and was a bit of an impressionist during the telling of some of those stories which only added to his charm. He willingly shared his knowledge and advice and if he considered you a friend he was loyal to a fault.
Thank you Pat for your service to Columbia County and for your friendship. You will be missed, but never forgotten. Your example of a dedicated leader will continue to guide us in our public service. Our deepest condolences to Liz, Emily and your entire family. RIP
