Huge thank you to volunteers Patty Williams, Pam Magann, Curtis Campbell, Bill McBride & Charles Jackson for getting the porch roof under way. Check out the handmade metal work by Curtis. Thanks also to Ed White, Tarence Puryear & Joe Akers. A bit of tweaking and metal; it will be ready to begin another century of service.

A generous and wonderful gift. And a welcome surprise. Shout out to arborist Steve & Rebecca Daly who spent the morning giving our trees and shrubs a much needed trim. PS I promised no personal photos 😉 Thank you both !

Thanks Virginia Traveler for highlighting this fun landmark in Chase City, VA. So proud of our community, the hard-working volunteers of Save Our Heritage, and generous sponsors who helped launch this restoration.

South Side Roller Mills in Chase City, Virginia. Built in 1912, the mill served local farmers from the area, processing their grain, but was perhaps best known for its signature product, “Wide Awake Flour”. The mill operated until 1986 when the owner, having decided to retire, closed up one night, locked the door, and never looked back. Since then, the mill has been an iconic part of the town’s landscape, catching the eye of travelers through this part of Virginia. In recent years, Preservation Virginia added the mill, now more than 100 years old, to its “Most Endangered” list of historic properties. Subsequently, a group of local citizens banded together to purchase and preserve the old mill. If you’re passing through town, the mill is hard to miss, but also check out Delray’s Diner (open for lunch Tues-Fri) and Bondurant Brothers Distillery (moonshine) located directly across the street from the South Side Roller Mills.
