⚠️ Public Service Announcement: Power Outage & Extreme Heat ⚠️
Charlton Volunteer Fire Department is aware of the widespread power outage affecting many residents following a downed power line. At this time, we do not have an estimated time for power to be restored, though National Grid's website estimates 6:30 PM.
With the current heat index around 103°F, please take precautions to stay safe:
- Stay in the shade whenever possible.
- Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
- If you have the ability, consider spending time at a location with power and air conditioning until service is restored.
- Check on older adults, young children, and neighbors who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.
Know the signs of heat exhaustion, including:
• Heavy sweating
• Cool, pale, or clammy skin
• Dizziness or fainting
• Weakness or fatigue
• Headache
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea or vomiting
• Fast, weak pulse
If symptoms are severe, worsen, or do not improve quickly, don't hesitate to call 911. Prompt medical attention can prevent heat exhaustion from progressing to the life-threatening condition of heat stroke.
We appreciate everyone's patience and will share updates as information becomes available. Please stay safe and look out for one another.
