It's that magical time of year when summer AND fall crops are in season! Visit our growers' pages on the Rooted Farmers Marketplace to view, shop, and support beginning growers and enjoy fresh veggies frown right here in Charlottesville.

With the beginning of the fall semester, we are excited to once again partner with the A School to explore new ways to help the farm continue to be a welcoming space for all: whether you are a member, neighbor, or simply passersby. This week we've got red potatoes, Asian eggplant, African eggplant, heirloom and cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, Nepali green beans, basil, and Swiss chard! Thanks to our allies--the braconid wasps--who help to ward off hungry caterpillars from our tomato crop! This photo shows a tomato hornworm covered with empty cocoons, from which braconid wasps have emerged. The parasitic braconid wasp is an important and beneficial insect that helps to control pests on the farm. They are also a sign of a healthy farm ecosystem - we are proud to use regenerative chemical-free practices across our network of New Roots gardens!
