What a day! ☀️🎉

After a long and successful academic year, and a spring packed with major events like the Luke Combs concert, Final Exercises, the NCAA Lacrosse Championship, we decided it was time for a little fun.

Yesterday, we held our first-ever DSS Field Day, and it did not disappoint! From co****le and rock-paper-scissors showdowns to tug-of-war battles, egg relays, three-legged races, potato sack races, and plenty of friendly competition, the afternoon was filled with laughter, teamwork, and smiles.

We spend so much of our year working together to help keep Grounds safe for the thousands of students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors who come through our community. Taking a few hours to step away from the day-to-day, enjoy the sunshine, and simply have fun with one another was a reminder of just how special the people behind DSS truly are.

We’re incredibly grateful for this team, the work they do every day, and the relationships that make us stronger. Thanks to everyone who helped make our first DSS Field Day such a success, we’re already looking forward to next year! 🧡💙

What a fantastic weekend for the Jefferson Area Motor Squad (JAMS)!

We were honored to welcome motorcycle officers from across the region and beyond for another successful Skills Training Seminar and Competition. Events like this provide invaluable opportunities for officers to sharpen their skills, share knowledge, build lasting professional relationships, and ultimately become safer and more effective riders. The event also serves as a fundraiser benefiting UVA Health Children’s Child Life Program.

A special thank you to Deputy Chief Bryant Hall for helping kick off the weekend with opening remarks and for his continued support of our motor unit and training efforts.

We’re proud of all of the officers who represented their agencies throughout the weekend and grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s event such a success. Thank you to our participants, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters for another memorable JAMS weekend!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our entire Department of Safety and Security team, we were proud to donate 111 items to Greer Elementary this week as part of our department-wide Adopt-A-School Drive.

From board games, books, and outdoor toys to non-perishable snacks and mac & cheese cups, these donations will help restock Greer’s resource closet, a valuable resource that supports students and families who may need a little extra help throughout the school year.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to support the students, staff, and families at Greer Elementary. Their team was incredibly appreciative and even invited us back to spend time with students during summer school! We’re already looking forward to returning in the fall.

Thank you to everyone across our department who contributed to this effort. Your kindness and generosity will continue making an impact long after these items were delivered. 💙🧡

Building connections beyond the classroom 💙🧡

Today, Brandi Pannell, Sgt. Goode, and Timara Haskins spent the day volunteering at Greer’s Field Day, reconnecting with students they’ve worked with through tutoring programs this year, and even some from years past.

Moments like these remind us that mentorship and community partnerships can leave a lasting impact long after the school day ends. Thank you to all of our staff who continue showing up for local students both in and out of the classroom!
