It has come to our attention that several individuals across the Commonwealth have received a text like this regarding a past fine due in Fairfax County. As a reminder, courts will never ask for money via text and all QR codes should be avoided as they can cause viruses to your electronic devices.

If you ever receive one of these or have concerns, it never hurts to reach out to the court and confirm if a fine actually does exist.

We appreciate the Mall Side Community for spending time with some of our deputies the other day! We enjoyed spending the afternoon with everybody. There will be a re-match for the foot race in the near future!

Several members from the Sheriff's Office had a wonderful time spending the afternoon at the Commonwealth Senior Living Center! We appreciate their warm welcome and really enjoyed our time together!

There have been numerous scam phone calls circulating around the area. The callers will pose as a member of the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office and inform the victim that they have missed court, have a warrant out for their arrest, or have missed some form of court appointment. The scammers have gone even further with the scam and have started creating fake court documents with the name of the person they're calling. (please see attached photo)

Just as a reminder, the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office will NEVER ask for payment of any kind over the phone to resolve any kind of issue. Furthermore, the sheriff's Office will not disseminate any form of court documents over text message to any involved party.

We have received multiple reports from individuals indicating they have received scam phone calls from the number associated with the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office. The callers will explain to the individuals they have a warrant for their arrest, they have missed jury duty, or have pending charges, and then ask for some form of payment to resolve the issue.

The Albemarle County Sheriff's Office will NEVER ask for payment over the phone. Please do not send them any form of payment if you happen to receive one of these calls. All payments regarding court matters are paid to their respective court.
