☀️ HEAT ADVISORY: STAY SAFE & STAY HYDRATED ☀️
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area today, with temperatures expected to climb into the upper 90s and heat index values potentially reaching 105°F or higher.
With this level of heat and humidity, heat-related illness can develop quickly especially for those working outdoors, older adults, children, and anyone participating in strenuous outdoor activities.
🔥 Protect yourself during extreme heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day don’t wait until you feel thirsty.
🏠 Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
⏰ Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day when possible.
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
🚗 Never leave children or pets inside a vehicle, even for a short period of time.
🐾 Keep pets supplied with fresh water and access to shade or a cool indoor area.
👵 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable to extreme heat.
⚠️ Know the signs of heat illness.
Heat exhaustion may cause heavy sweating, headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, thirst, or a rapid heartbeat.
Confusion, slurred speech, fainting, seizures, or loss of consciousness may indicate heat stroke and should be treated as a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately and begin cooling the person while help is on the way.
For our firefighters and other outdoor workers: hydrate early and often, utilize rehab and cooling resources, and keep an eye on your crew. Heat stress can develop rapidly when high temperatures are combined with strenuous activity and protective equipment.
🔥 Carolina Volunteer Fire Department reminds everyone: stay hydrated, stay cool, and look out for one another.
