September is National Recovery Month — and it means a lot to us here at Mecklenburg County ABC Board. 💜

Recovery looks different for everyone. Some paths are quiet and steady. Others are hard-fought and nonlinear. But every single one matters.

That's why our work goes beyond regulating the sale of alcoholic beverages. We actively invest in community programs focused on substance misuse prevention, education, research, treatment, and recovery support — because we believe in building a healthier, stronger Charlotte for everyone.

This month, we want to shine a light on one of our longtime partners: Anuvia Prevention & Recovery Center. Anuvia provides prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery resources for individuals and families right here in the Charlotte area. They do incredible, life-changing work every single day.

❤️ What does "Beyond the Bottle" look like in real life? It looks like this.

Our partnership with A Giving Heart Project is one of our favorite examples of community investment in action. Through the Mecklenburg County ABC Board's Community Health & Wellness Grant Program (CHWGP), we're helping fund real, on-the-ground youth prevention work — including Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) for elementary-age kids and TIPPS, a program serving young people ages 11–17.

Executive Director and co-founder Glennis Davis recently sat down with us to share what this work looks like day to day, and honestly, it's inspiring. But what makes this partnership special isn't just the funding — it's the relationships. Our grant team, leadership, and Meck ABC Law Enforcement are showing up, being present, and engaging directly with young people in our community.

Because prevention isn't a check in the mail. It's people showing up.

🥃 September is National Bourbon Heritage Month, and we're kicking things off with the basics — what actually makes bourbon, bourbon?

True bourbon has to be made in the United States, distilled from a mash bill of at least 51% corn, and aged in new, charred oak containers. It can't contain any added coloring, flavoring, or other spirits. No shortcuts, no substitutions — just the real thing.

All month long, Spirits Spotlight is diving into the history, craftsmanship, and traditions that make bourbon one of America's most iconic spirits. From terminology to tasting, there's a lot more to explore beyond the bottle.

🦺 Life jackets save lives — make sure everyone on board has one and wears it.
🚫 Boat sober. Alcohol impairs judgment on the water just as much as on the road.
☀️ Check the weather, stay hydrated, and let someone on land know your float plan.
⚓ Know and follow local boating laws — they exist to protect everyone out there.
