🎪✨ THE FESTIVAL OF ODDITIES IS COMING TO CHARLOTTE! ✨🎪

Get ready for a wonderfully weird weekend! The Festival of Oddities is happening September 4–6, 2026, bringing a unique community event to downtown Charlotte.

🚧 Please note the following street closures:

📅 Friday, Saturday & Sunday — September 4–6
⏰ 8:00 AM–4:00 PM each day

🔸 Harris St. — between N. Bostwick St. and Cochran Ave.
🔸 N. Bostwick St. — between E. Harris St. and Lawrence Ave.

These areas will be closed to through traffic during the event. Please plan ahead, use alternate routes, and keep an eye out for pedestrians and increased activity in the area.

👻🔮 Whether you love the unusual, the mysterious, or simply enjoy getting out for a community event, the Festival of Oddities is sure to make for an interesting weekend in Charlotte!

Looking for a hands-on career where your work makes a difference in the community? The City of Charlotte Department of Public Works is looking for a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator to join our team!

💧 What You’ll Do:
As a WWTP Operator, you’ll help operate and maintain the City’s wastewater treatment plant, monitor equipment, collect samples, perform routine testing, maintain records, and help keep plant equipment and facilities operating safely and efficiently.

🔧 We’re looking for someone who:
• Has mechanical aptitude and enjoys hands-on work
• Can follow written and verbal instructions
• Is comfortable working with equipment and performing routine testing
• Can maintain accurate records and reports
• Works well as part of a team
• Has a high school diploma or equivalent
• Has a valid driver’s license

No experience? Don’t count yourself out! The job description includes a DPW IV level with no experience required, making this a great opportunity to begin a career in wastewater operations and public service.

🛶 KANOE THE KAZOO — Join Us on the Water! 🌊

Looking for a fun way to enjoy the outdoors while learning more about our local waterways? Join us for Kanoe the Kazoo/Battle Creek River Watershed on Saturday, September 12, 2026!

Kanoe the Kazoo is an annual canoe trip series that promotes outdoor recreation while raising awareness about water quality and non-point source pollution in the Kalamazoo River watershed.

📅 Saturday, September 12, 2026
⏰ Sign-in begins at 8:30 AM
📍 Marshall Public Services Building — 900 S. Marshall Ave.

☕ Donuts, coffee and water will be available before the trip.

🛶 Participants will float from the Marshall Public Services Building to Ceresco Green, with the trip wrapping up around 12:00 PM. Transportation assistance will be provided to shuttle participant vehicles to the ending location.

🌭 After the float, stick around for a BBQ lunch featuring hot dogs, brats and chips, along with a short educational program!

Need a kayak? A limited number are available to rent through the City of Marshall Recreation Department. Call (269) 781-5166 to reserve one.

Residents and visitors, please be aware that S. Clinton St. from W. Seminary St. to W. Lovett St. will be CLOSED tonight, Friday, August 28, from 6:00–8:00 PM for the Oak Park Grand Re-Opening! 🎉🌳

Please plan to use an alternate route during the event and watch for posted barricades and signage.

🏀 Exciting Updates at Southridge Park! 🏀

Our City of Charlotte DPW crew is hard at work installing new basketball backboards at Southridge Park! 🔧🏀

These new boards are another great improvement to the park and will help keep the courts ready for plenty of games, practice, and friendly competition. We’re excited to continue making improvements to our parks for everyone in the community to enjoy!

🚧 **RECLAMITE ROAD TREATMENT — AUGUST 27–SEPTEMBER 1** 🚧

The City of Charlotte Department of Public Works, in partnership with **Pavement Technology, Inc.**, will be applying **Reclamite® pavement rejuvenator** to several City streets between **Thursday, August 27 and Tuesday, September 1, 2026**.

Reclamite helps **extend the life of pavement by restoring oils lost through aging and weather exposure**, helping protect our investment in local roads.

The treatment may leave the roadway looking wet or dark immediately after application. Please avoid driving on the treated surface until crews indicate it is safe to do so.

🏀 UPDATES AT DEAN PARK! 🏀

The City of Charlotte Department of Public Works is continuing to make improvements throughout our parks! 🌳

The basketball hoops at Dean Park have received some much-needed updates! Our park rangers repaired one of the backboards and added target squares to the backboards, helping improve the court for kids, families, and basketball players of all ages. 🏀☀️

Our DPW crews and park rangers work hard to maintain and improve the spaces that make Charlotte a great place to live, play, and spend time together.
