Shepherd's Center Charlotte Helping older adults in Mecklenburg County live their best lives through programs and support.

Adventures in Learning- provides extended learning for older adults. Each quarter a new series of elective classes in history, art, religion, writing and recreational subjects are offered. Travel - trips are designed by senior volunteers with seniors in mind. Income Tax Assistance - In cooperation with AARP, trained volunteers help tax payers complete and file Federal and State income tax returns.

SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) Health Insurance Assistance
- Trained volunteers help senior adults find the right Medicare supplemental coverage, explore long-term care insurance options and assist in filing benefits. Transportation - volunteers provide rides to medical services, dental and physical therapy appointments as well as grocery store, bank and other necessary errands. Handyman Services - volunteers perform small repairs to help keep older adults' homes safe and viable.

Many Charlotteans know that Romare Bearden hailed from the Queen City, but two other influential artists with local ties—his cousin by marriage, Charles Alston, and Gastonia native John Biggers—also left lasting legacies.

Join us for Local Roots as we explore their stories and Charlotte’s rich cultural history with ’s Senior Curator of American Art, Dr. Jonathan Stuhlman.

History came to life on today’s Travel Adventure! 🇺🇸✨ Our participants stepped into the American Revolution at the Charlotte Museum of History American Revolution: The Augmented Exhibition. From signing the Declaration of Independence to crossing the Delaware with George Washington, this interactive experience brought America’s founding story to life in a whole new way.

We also explored the Carolinas’ important role in the Revolution and learned how Charlotte helped shape history. Thank you to the Charlotte Museum of History for an engaging and unforgettable experience!

We’re thinking about heading to Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC this September—and we want YOU to help us make it happen! 🌿☀️
