ies. Among these organizations: the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library, the Arts and Science Council and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont. Digital Charlotte is a hub for digital inclusion advocacy, which includes internet access, devices, and education. The website provides news and resources for teachers, librarians, neighborhood leaders, technology mentors, and other practitioners. Led by the Queens Knight School of Communication, Digital Charlotte is a collaboration among citizens, community organizations, and municipal agencies.

Launched by the Knight School of Communication at Queens, Digital Charlotte is one of several school initiatives supported by a $6 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. These initiatives are designed to create an “informed community," a key term in a 2009 report issued by the Knight Commission on the Information Needs of Communities in a Democracy. An informed community is a place where the information ecology meets people’s personal and civic information needs.
