This past Monday at Bagram Airfield was a moment I’ll never forget, Maj. Gen. JT Thomson placed the brigadier general rank on my uniform during a promotion ceremony. Standing there, wearing that new rank, stepping into the role of deputy commander for support with the 1st Cavalry Division, it was humbling, surreal, and an incredible honor all at once. Proud to serve alongside the best.

Honoring a Hero’s ReturnMr. John Wardell has returned to the cliffs of Normandy nearly 80 years after he and his fellow Soldiers from the 2nd Ranger Battalion bravely scaled them during the D-Day invasion of World War II.Mr. Wardell, now the last living member of his unit, stands as a testament to the courage, sacrifice and determination that defined that historic day.

The 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, officially marked its return from a 9-month deployment to Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve by uncasing its colors in an early morning ceremony on July 14.The uncasing ceremony signifies the completion of Demon Brigade's overseas mission and their return to operations at Fort Riley.

I look forward to joining you in celebrating our history and recognizing the fortune we share with those who formerly wore the Big Red One and those who wear it today.
