Veterans Bridge Home

Veterans Bridge Home Your bridge from service to stability. Stronger together. Stronger at home. In some cases, they also recover from wounds and also pursue further education.

From transition to connection, employment and housing to mental health, wellness and VA benefits — we are here to support service members, veterans, and their families. Veterans Bridge Home connects Veterans and their families, in any state of transition, to the community. Through our network of partners, we help Veterans navigate employment, create social connections, and settle their families. W

e look at the whole Veteran and connect them to the resources needed to be successful and thriving leaders in our community. After the regimen and sacrifice of military duty, transition to civilian life can be challenging as Veterans reunite with their families, pursue a new profession, locate services which were all on base, and build a social network. Veterans Bridge Home serves as an entry point for Veterans who don't know where to turn to access support and services. Because Veterans return home to a civilian community and not to federal agencies or bureaucracies, each community must reach out and actively assist in the reintegration process alongside federal agencies such as the Veterans Administration. The Carolinas have the opportunity and privilege to help bring our nation's warriors and their families home with the same energy and commitment that our Veterans have displayed in serving our nation. In so doing, ours will serve as a leader to inform other communities that wish to create more welcoming and livable communities for returning Veterans and their families. Veterans Bridge Home (VBH) is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to supporting the transition of military members exiting the service with a holistic approach. Please consider donating monthly or annually by visiting veteransbridgehome.org. ANY amount makes an impact on a Veterans life!

2 truths:
1. When veterans and families thrive, our communities and our state are stronger.
2. No single organization can do this alone.

Today we’re going to talk about #2.

Back in November, multiple families were displaced after a tragic fire at the Park at Ferentino apartment complex. And when you lose everything in a fire, you’re left with no choice but to start again from scratch. Mattresses, clothing, everything.

What struck us, was how 20 organizations in the Charlotte community came together almost immediately to help these families. And they all brought a little piece of the puzzle with them. All of those pieces got put together, and now every one of those families are housed again, but it took everybody to make that happen.

That isn’t the kind of thing that happens if one organization goes at it alone. Those families wouldn’t have been taken care of otherwise.

This is why coordinated care matters.

"The veterans and service members and families that we serve, they decided to raise their hand to serve this nation. And when they return back to their communities, we should show up for them." - Al Lampkins

These are the people who answered the call to serve. The people who've shown up for us, even when we couldn't see it. Now we're calling on you to do the same.

Crisis shouldn’t be the entry point.

We’ve believed that since the very beginning and we’ve spent every year since proving why upstream care works. When service members, veterans, and their families get the right help at the right time, good things happen.

Coordination is mission critical.

If you read nothing else, read that.

Yesterday, Governor Stein signed Executive Order No. 38: Strengthening North Carolina Military Communities. This order directs all Cabinet agencies to appoint Military Affairs Coordinators to coordinate with the DMVA in support of NC's military communities, installations, and families.

North Carolina has the people, the institutions, and the commitment to be the best state in the nation for veterans and their families. The challenge is fragmentation and lack of coordination.

That’s why the Executive Order No. 38 matters. It strengthens coordination across state agencies, creates clearer lines of communication, and aligns efforts through the DMVA. This order moves NC closer to a more responsive system that will better support the unique needs of our military communities.

After connecting 30,000+ veteran families to 70,000+ services, there are two things we know:
1. When veterans and their families thrive, our communities and our state are stronger.
2. No single organization can do this work alone.

We'll always remember those who gave everything. And we'll always keep showing up for those who came home.

Let the takeaway from Memorial Day be threefold:

1. “As we stand among these flags at half mast today, each one representing courage, service, and sacrifice, we are reminded that freedom is not free. It has always been defended and preserved by ordinary Americans willing to do extraordinary things for others and their country.” - Blake Bourne

2. “Memorial Day is not about us. Veterans Day is about us. Memorial Day is about those who never came home.” - Reverend Frank Thomas

3. Keep our Gold Star families in your thoughts, always. But also, take it a step further. Write to them when you hear of their loss. Send them a card. You can only hope that you will never know how much those thoughts and words mean.

Veteran Marion was injured while serving on active duty and spent years living with the belief that he was not entitled to VA benefits.

Then he connected with the Mecklenburg County VSO and that began to change. And when Marion's niece and caregiver shared that his current furniture was no long supporting his mobility needs, the VSO knew who to call.

That's where we come in.

We coordinated with local partners and helped secure furniture that would actually meet Marion's needs.

The impact was immediate, and his niece shared that he “has not smiled like this in a long time.”

That smile reflects what a connected network can do, and why VBH believes so strongly in the power of it. No one organization can do the work alone, it takes all parties working as a team to make a difference.

Just like how it takes all organizations working as a team to make a difference, it also takes all people working as a team. You can make a difference by making a donation today: https://ow.ly/Y8xv50Z3oSz
