Charlotte shouldn’t rush a generational decision just to meet an artificial deadline.

Let’s get the facts. Set strong guardrails. Listen to residents. And get it right.

Nearly 80%.

That’s the share of people arrested by ICE in Charlotte this year who had not been convicted of a crime.

ICE arrested 1,580 people in Charlotte from Jan. 1 through Aug. 6 — more than double the same period last year.

About 20% had criminal convictions. About 40% had pending charges. Nearly 40% had neither.

Charged does not mean convicted.

These are the numbers. And they deserve our attention.

This one hurts. 💔

I never had the privilege of knowing Dolly Parton personally, but like so many people, I absolutely loved her.

There was something so authentic, joyful and generous about her. I loved watching her videos, and I especially loved sharing them with Charlotte and Arya. Her sweet birthday messages to children always made us smile.

But what I admired most was her incredible commitment to children and literacy. Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she helped put books into the hands of millions of children and inspired families to fall in love with reading.

What a beautiful way to use your success—to give children the gift of books, imagination and possibility.

Dolly was one of a kind. Funny, warm, generous and completely herself.

She will be deeply missed, but what a legacy she leaves behind. ❤️📚

More than 150 people showed up and we received dozens of questions at our State of Our Environment Town Hall.

That tells me something: Charlotte is paying attention.

And I heard five things loud and clear:

💧 Protect our water.
⚡ Protect our power grid.
🏘️ Protect our neighborhoods.
💰 Make growth pay its own way.
🗣️ Give residents a voice before decisions are made—not after.

This conversation was never about being pro-growth or anti-growth. It’s about responsible growth—and making sure the people who live here have a voice in shaping Charlotte’s future.

The moratorium gave us time to ask the hard questions. Now we have a responsibility to use that time wisely.

The question isn’t whether Charlotte will grow. The question is whether growth happens to us—or whether we shape it.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke up and submitted questions.

Now we take what we heard and turn it into action.

A public forum on data centers’ impact on Charlotte – and its neighborhoods – is scheduled for Aug. 20.

The town hall at Project 658, 3646 Central Ave., is open to the public, but registration is required at cltgov.me/ajmera.

City Council member Dimple Ajmera, who is convening the 6 p.m. forum, said more than 200 people have signed up. City officials and technology representatives will be in attendance to answer questions related to data center proliferation as well as their environmental and economic consequences.

“People have questions,” Ajmera said. “This is not about anti-growth or anti-development. This conversation is about who pays, who is benefiting, and where these facilities are located, because we currently do know that the facilities that are being built and have been approved in the crescent area, where minority communities live, and most importantly, we want to make sure that the community gets a voice in this decision.”
