Leadership means looking ahead.

Yesterday, City Council unanimously approved a 150-day pause on new data center applications.

I called for this pause because Charlotte needs time to understand the long-term impacts on infrastructure, utilities, neighborhoods, and taxpayers before moving forward.

Thank you to the residents and community leaders who spoke up and helped shape this conversation.

A 150-day pause today can prevent years of unintended consequences tomorrow.

On Monday, June 8, City Council will vote on a 150-day pause on new data center approvals while we develop thoughtful regulations and community protections.

This is not about being anti-AI or anti-growth.

It’s about responsible growth.

Residents deserve transparency, community input, and a seat at the table before large-scale industrial facilities are built near neighborhoods.

Join us on June 8 and make your voice heard.

North Carolina leaders on both sides of the aisle are now questioning whether billion-dollar data centers should continue receiving massive tax exemptions while residents face rising costs.

This is exactly why I called for Charlotte to pause and study the impacts of large-scale data centers in our communities.

We can support innovation while also protecting neighborhoods, ratepayers, water resources, and our power grid.

Growth should pay its own way.

Charlotte residents deserve a budget that invests in public safety and community wellbeing while also respecting affordability.

This week, I advocated for:
✔ Restoring Safe Alliance funding
✔ Supporting firefighter pay parity
✔ Modified-duty positions for injured firefighters
✔ Exploring ways to reduce the proposed property tax increase

We can continue investing in Charlotte’s future while also being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

Charlotte deserves guardrails before more large-scale data centers move forward by right.

Last night, Council unanimously moved forward with a public hearing and potential 150-day pause after I called for temporary protections so we can study the impacts, engage the public, and put thoughtful standards in place.

This is not anti-growth. It’s responsible planning.

Residents deserve answers about water usage, noise, energy demand, and neighborhood impacts BEFORE approvals become permanent.

Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who taught me that strength and love can exist in the very same moment. ❤️

My mom immigrated to this country with a language barrier, little certainty, and a dream for a better future for her children.

She left behind everything familiar and worked long hours and taking on odd jobs so my siblings and I could have opportunities she never had. I watched her stretch every dollar, sacrifice endlessly, and still somehow lead our family with love, dignity, and hope.

As a little girl, I didn’t fully understand the weight she carried.
As a mother of two young daughters today, I understand it completely.

I now understand the quiet sacrifices.
The sleepless nights.
The constant balancing act.
The determination to build a better future for your children while still showing up for your community.

My mom taught me something powerful:
Women do not have to choose between being devoted mothers and strong leaders.

In fact, motherhood has made me a better public servant.
It has made me more compassionate, more resilient, more disciplined..

One of the most emotional parts of this journey has been watching my mom stand at polling locations for hours — rain or shine — believing in me every step of the way. Her sacrifices became the foundation for everything I’ve been able to accomplish.

To my mom: thank you for showing me what courage looks like.
And to every mother balancing family, work, service, and dreams of your own — you should never be underestimated.

Happy Mother’s Day. 🌸💖

Mayor Vi Lyles’ announcement today marks a major moment for our city.

Public service at this level requires tremendous sacrifice, not just from the person serving, but from their family as well. I want to thank Mayor Lyles for her years of service to Charlotte and wish her and her family the very best in this next chapter.

I’m keeping Mayor Vi Lyles and her loved ones in my prayers during this transition.

Lyles, the city's first Black female mayor, announced she'll resign June 30, ending her tenure to focus on family and allow fresh leadership.

Rain didn’t stop us. 🌧️ It brought us together.

I had the honor of kicking off the Save Soil Walkathon here in Charlotte.

From families to local leaders, we showed up for something bigger than ourselves: raising awareness about soil health and sustainability for the next generation.

Because healthy soil = healthy food, healthy communities, and a healthier planet.

Proud to stand with this movement. 🌍
Let’s keep walking forward—together.
