Thank you to all firefighters who attended and a special shout out to our EMS director/firefighter Jessica Sawyer for feeding us all. It was a nice surprise!

Today Charlotte and Meddybemps Fire Departments responded to an out of control permitted burn in Charlotte.

The fire was knocked down quickly by crews from both departments. Crews then remained on scene for about an hour extinguishing hot spots and soaking down the area. Approximately 1/2 an acre burned.

In this case the property owner had a permit and followed all the rules and restrictions in place. Weather conditions can change very fast which is what happened here. A single strong gust of wind sent sparks into nearby tall grass. The owner called for help immediately. We understand accidents happen.

There is a great post from the Maine Forest Rangers which explains how fire conditions can change so fast. We have shared it here on our page.

Thank you to Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Meddybemps Vol. Fire Dept, Maine Forest Rangers and Washington RCC.

Today a little after noon Charlotte Fire& Rescue was called to Round Pond in Charlotte for a man in the water who fell out of his Kayak.

Charlotte/Meddybemps rescue boat along with Charlotte Rescue 1 and many first responders responded to the scene. The victim was located, rescued and brought onboard our boat where First Responders gave aid and began warming him up. He was brought to shore and EMT's evaluated him while warming him in the back of our Rescue unit.

Thankfully the victim was wearing a life jacket and had a cell phone to call for help. I would like to remind everyone the importance of wearing a life jacket. Had the victim not been wearing one this call could have turned out much different.

Thank you to everyone who responded to help. Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue , Meddybemps Fire Dept, Pleasant Point Fire Dept,
Downeast EMS, Maine Warden Service and of course Washington RCC for helping coordinate the rescue. Great Teamwork by all involved.

Hello Folks,

It's hard to believe after a winter that didn't want to end we have had our first High Fire Danger alert. We will be monitoring conditions closely from now on and open burn permits will be dependent on daily conditions. As a general rule any day with a High, Very High or Extreme weather alert no permits will be issued in the Town of Charlotte. On days permits are issued please adhere to the restrictions on the permit. These are put in place to keep you, your neighbors and our firefighters safe.

There have already been wildfires across the state. Sometimes even on low and moderate fire danger days, burn time restrictions may be after 5 p.m. Please be sure all fires are completely extinguished before leaving the burn site. I appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation in keeping our town safe.
