North Carolina is growing exponentially--and I believe we can build it for everyone, if we chose to.

Corporate tax racing to zero by 2030. Minimum wage frozen at $7.25 since 2009. Two big levers, pulled in opposite directions: but that's not a dead end. It's a solvable problem.

Growth and workers were never actually opposites. With the right approach, we get more of both.
That's the North Carolina I'm working toward. Happy Labor Day! 🛠️🇺🇸

Three years of BLK Girl BLK Dress Dinner Party, and tonight we celebrated the finale.

150 women got dressed up for each other. Not for a stage, not for a panel; just for the joy of sitting at a table full of women and being fully seen.

That's rare. That's sacred. That's worth dressing up for every single time.

We laughed more than we planned to. Stayed longer than we meant to. And before we said goodnight, we reminded each other that showing up for one another doesn't end when the dinner does. November's coming, and we're going together.

Grateful for every woman who sat at this table tonight.

takeovers move faster than a curfew clock can. A thousand kids can show up somewhere in under an hour; organized on an app, not a schedule.

Three things I'm pushing for:
1. real investment in weekend spaces for teens
2. active monitoring of where these get organized
3. geofencing in our most open, hardest-to-secure spots--alerting parents, not police, the moment their kid walks in.

We've also asked Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police to come back with a real pilot: targeted, not permanent, built to gather data instead of assuming an answer.

Crime is down nationally, and here in Charlotte. So why does every city still feel like it's in emergency mode on public safety?

I ranked 3 of the most common tools cities are using right now--curfews, business hour restrictions, and alcohol regulation-- by what the actual research says works. One has real data behind it. The other two? Still an open question, and real businesses are absorbing the cost while we find out.

Let's let the data lead. 🔍

ICYMI: Great turnout at last week's town hall on data centers, healthcare, and infrastructure. One big topic stole the spotlight: the City of Charlotte Skilled to Build initiative, which aims to train our workforce for the jobs data centers and healthcare are actually creating--because growth only works for Charlotte if our people are ready for it.

Went to Charlotte Pride today. Left thinking about what it means to belong in one of the nation's largest cities.

My faith requires that I love my neighbor as myself. My mission is to build a Charlotte where everybody feels at home.

Turns out, those point in the same direction.

Why wouldn't Charlotte just take $300 million? Glad you asked.

The federal Model Cities program isn't a grant. It's a cooperative agreement, that gives the federal government oversight over policing or communities in exchange for a piece of the pot.

That means more surveillance tech, mandatory ICE cooperation, potential National Guard presence-- right before this election in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty- six? Find somebody else to play with.

What's more, a repayment clause that could bill us if crime "surges," with no cap disclosed. Sound familiar? It is.

I want safer streets as much as anyone. But we don't have to trade Charlotte's independence for outside cash to get there, whether that cash comes from Raleigh or D.C.

For Charlotte, and beyond.

A Win is a Win!

I stopped down tonight because the question on the table mattered: what does a new transit station actually mean for the neighborhood right next to it
Quick context: the MPTA is the regional board that now governs our transportation, and we're moving CATS over to that. There's been this whole debate about the West Craighead Station area near Camp North End. Right now it's mostly industrial, but we've learned in transportation planning that when you put a transit line somewhere, residents nearby really feel the ripple effects, for better or worse.

So tonight there was a vote on West Craighead Station, and it had a ton of implications. Thankfully a new motion secured a real analysis, to be considered separatelt to a later date on the Red Line instead of deciding tonight to advance without it completely. Unanimously supported (I believe). That's what it looks like when a process gets it right, even if it takes longer. A lot of twists, but kudos to the community that's been fighting for this, for their neighborhood to get to shape their own future investment.

That's what we need out of our local government and beyond.
