6/11/2026 UPDATE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, North Carolina Rural Water Association has had to reschedule testing from Monday, June 15th to Monday, June 29th. Testing will remain as scheduled on Thursday, June 18th.

📢PUBLIC NOTICE: Sewer Inspection Smoke Testing in/around Downtown Area on June 15th and June 18th📢

These inspections utilize a standard smoke-testing method to locate illegal connections and identify sources of stormwater inflow and infiltration. Sewer systems are strictly designed to carry sewage to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, not stormwater.

What You Need to Know:
The Process: A specialized blower will force air and a non-toxic, harmless v***r into the sewer system through neighborhood manholes.

What is Normal: The v***r should safely escape through sewer-drain vents on building roofs and out of street manholes.

Inside Your Building: If your indoor plumbing is working properly, no smoke should enter your home or business. Smoke should not emerge from your sinks, floor drains, or gutter downspouts.

Drone Assistance: The Lincolnton Police Department will be utilizing a drone during these dates to assist crews with aerial tracking and mapping of the testing.

Compliance & Ordinances
If these inspections reveal illegal connections or structural plumbing violations, property owners will be notified, and matters will be addressed in accordance with city ordinances and NC State Building Codes.
