We are Kicking off the 16th Year of Camp Holiday with a brand-new Safety Curriculum!
As we gear up for the first day of Camp Holiday this Monday, June 15th, at our North Campus, we have some incredible news to share! As we celebrate our 16th year of camp, we are officially launching our brand-new Safety Awareness Program—made possible by a generous grant from Speedway Children's Charities - North Carolina.
Our goal this summer goes beyond connection and friendship. We have completely reinvigorated our curriculum so campers not only learn/build on communication, social-emotional, and adaptive life skills. Most importantly, we want them to take home tangible safety skills—learning how to identify unsafe situations, communicate their needs, and generalize these strategies across all settings into adulthood.
It truly takes a village, and we are so grateful for our community partners who helped us build this:
Present Age Ministries: Thank you for proactively reaching out, visiting our programs, and completing formal training with us. Your dedication to modifying and adapting your curriculum to support the unique learning abilities and social-emotional needs of the Down syndrome community has been extraordinary.
Our Community Experts: A huge shoutout to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), our local Fire Department, supporting doctors and nurses, and Duke Energy (teaching financial safety!) for bringing this curriculum to life.
Because of the Speedway Children's Charities grant and these amazing partnerships, this is just the beginning! We are excited to expand this curriculum into year-round workshops, outside club opportunities, and elevated training programs for all of our incredible camp counselors and volunteers.
Thank you, Speedway Children's Charities and Present Age Ministries, for helping us align our mission and ensuring we can continue to support our amazing individuals with Down syndrome as they grow!
