We are Kicking off the 16th Year of Camp Holiday with a brand-new Safety Curriculum!

As we gear up for the first day of Camp Holiday this Monday, June 15th, at our North Campus, we have some incredible news to share! As we celebrate our 16th year of camp, we are officially launching our brand-new Safety Awareness Program—made possible by a generous grant from Speedway Children's Charities - North Carolina.

Our goal this summer goes beyond connection and friendship. We have completely reinvigorated our curriculum so campers not only learn/build on communication, social-emotional, and adaptive life skills. Most importantly, we want them to take home tangible safety skills—learning how to identify unsafe situations, communicate their needs, and generalize these strategies across all settings into adulthood.

It truly takes a village, and we are so grateful for our community partners who helped us build this:

Present Age Ministries: Thank you for proactively reaching out, visiting our programs, and completing formal training with us. Your dedication to modifying and adapting your curriculum to support the unique learning abilities and social-emotional needs of the Down syndrome community has been extraordinary.

Our Community Experts: A huge shoutout to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), our local Fire Department, supporting doctors and nurses, and Duke Energy (teaching financial safety!) for bringing this curriculum to life.

Because of the Speedway Children's Charities grant and these amazing partnerships, this is just the beginning! We are excited to expand this curriculum into year-round workshops, outside club opportunities, and elevated training programs for all of our incredible camp counselors and volunteers.

Thank you, Speedway Children's Charities and Present Age Ministries, for helping us align our mission and ensuring we can continue to support our amazing individuals with Down syndrome as they grow!

What a fun Girls' Day Out with our wonderful friend Sandra from Mary Kay!

Our UPside Club participants enjoyed a special afternoon on Sunday of pampering, learning about skincare, discovering the right shades and color palettes, and finding products that complement their unique skin tones.

We loved seeing some amazing ladies come together for an afternoon of friendship, confidence-building, and self-care. ✨

A huge thank you to Sandra for creating such a fun and welcoming experience for our group and for sharing her expertise with us.

Stay tuned—we're already looking forward to another Mary Kay opportunity in the future!

To the parent navigating an unexpected diagnosis... 💙✨

Receiving a prenatal or postnatal Down syndrome diagnosis can bring a whirlwind of emotions, big questions, and a feeling of sudden isolation. It’s easy to get lost in medical clinical percentages or internet rabbit holes.

But please hear us: You are not alone, and you do not have to walk this path by yourself.

Right here in the Greater Charlotte area (and all over the nation), our First Call Support Program is ready to step in. We have a dedicated team of 23 volunteer mentors—local moms and dads who have been in your shoes, ask the same questions, and are living this journey beautifully right now.

Whether you need a phone call, a text thread, or a face-to-face coffee, our mentors are here on your terms to provide an empathetic ear and trusted local resources.

🕊️ Take the first step at your own pace: New and expecting parents can fill out a completely confidential form online to receive immediate, free support. Your choices are your own, but we want to make sure you know a vibrant, welcoming community is waiting to embrace you.

🔗 Fill out this confidential form to connect privately with a local mentor today. https://dsagreatercharlotte.org/programs/first-call/

Every dollar raised helps support Camp Horizon, our overnight retreat for youth with Down syndrome ages 10–17, held each year at YMCA Camp Harrison in Boomer, NC.

Camp Horizon provides an unforgettable Wednesday–Saturday overnight camp experience where campers build friendships, gain independence, try new activities, and create lifelong memories. None of it would be possible without the support of our community.

Not only are we actively recruiting volunteer counselors for this year's camp, but we're also working hard to raise the funds needed to provide the activities, experiences, and support that make Camp Horizon so special.

✨ Your participation makes a difference.
✨ Your raffle tickets make a difference.
✨ Your support helps send campers to camp.

So gather your friends, bring your lucky bingo dauber, and come enjoy a great evening while supporting youth with Down syndrome.

We can't wait to see you there! 💙

Camp Holiday Needs Your Help! 💙☀️

In just a few weeks, we'll welcome campers to Camp Holiday for six amazing weeks of friendship, learning, growth, and FUN!

What many people don't realize is that we host camp at two church locations, which means we bring in everything ourselves—from sensory equipment and games to fine motor activities, gross motor supplies, kitchen items, and more.

This year, we've expanded and refreshed many of our camp activities, and we could really use your help making our camp spaces the best they can be for our campers.

🎯 We've created an Amazon Wish List, but here's the good news:

✅ Items do NOT need to be purchased through Amazon.
✅ Many items can be found at Walmart, Target, Costco, local stores, or even in your own home.
✅ We happily accept new and gently used items when appropriate.

List here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1HR189IZODPAJ?ref_=wl_share

Have something you'd like to donate that's not on Amazon? Reach out to us! We'd love to coordinate a drop-off or pick-up. [email protected] or message us here.

💳 Gift cards are also a HUGE help!

Gift cards allow us to purchase:
🍎 Weekly snacks and kitchen supplies
🧪 Science experiment materials
🎨 Activity and craft supplies
🍽️ Food for cooking activities
💙 Last-minute camp needs that always pop up during six weeks of camp

Every donation—big or small—helps us create meaningful experiences for individuals with Down syndrome while keeping camp engaging, accessible, and full of opportunities to learn, grow, and build independence.

If you've ever wondered how you can help Camp Holiday, this is it. 💙

Thank you for helping us create an incredible summer for our campers!
