"People often think of gun violence as a single act committed by a single individual against a single victim. But that is not how communities experience it. A shooting is more like dropping a rock into a still lake. The impact point may be small, but the ripples spread outward in every direction. They reach parents who will never again hear their child's voice. They reach children who grow up without a mother or father. They reach neighbors who no longer feel safe on their own streets. They reach teachers, pastors, business owners and entire neighborhoods, who are forced to carry the weight of trauma long after the crime scene tape comes down.” - Chief Patterson

Today we pause to remember those lost to gun violence and to support the families and communities forever changed. On National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we join residents, advocates and agencies across the country in promoting responsible gun ownership, education and safety. We're stronger when we work together. Joined by our partners at the FBI - Charlotte, U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of North Carolina, ATF, Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA, Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, Charlotte NC, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg District Attorney's Office, we spoke out about our steadfast commitment in fighting gun violence and highlighted the initiatives and partnerships being utilized as we work to keep our community safe.

We love seeing young people active and outdoors, but e‑bike misuse is creating dangerous situations on our roads. We’re seeing more juveniles riding them recklessly on busy roads without regard for traffic laws. That puts riders, drivers, and pedestrians at risk. E‑bike misuse can result in bike seizures, juvenile charges and most importantly — serious injuries or fatalities.

Let’s work together to keep our streets safe. Parents: please talk with your kids about responsible riding and the laws that apply to e‑bikes. Safety isn’t optional, it’s life‑saving.
