A world without abuse for men, women and children in their schools, jobs, homes, and communities. Key Factors & Statistics

Domestic violence is the willful i

ntimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically; however, the one constant component of domestic violence is one partner’s consistent efforts to maintain power and control over the other. When you think of Domestic violence we always think of a women being hurt by a man, but men also suffer from abusive women. Statistics show: On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.1
1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
1 in 7 women and 1 in 18 men have been stalked by an intimate partner during their lifetime to the point in which they felt very fearful or believed that they or someone close to them would be harmed or killed.

Men's Mental Health Month

πŸ’™ Men Hurt Too

Many men suffer in silence due to stigma and fear of judgment. This month, we remind men that strength is found in seeking support, not suffering alone.

Your feelings matter.
Your story matters.

JUST ONE MONTH AWAY!

The I AM ENOUGH Retreat 2026 – Release by the Sea is quickly approaching, and we are counting down the days!

Ladies, come prepared to leave it all at the sea. Leave the hurt. Leave the disappointment. Leave the guilt. Leave the fear. Leave the self-doubt. Leave the weight you've been carrying for far too long.

This retreat is your opportunity to:
✨ Heal from your past
πŸ¦‹ Embrace your present
πŸŒ… Empower your future
πŸ‘‘ Walk boldly in your purpose

For one weekend, give yourself permission to choose YOU. To rest. To reflect. To release. To renew. To reconnect with the woman God created you to be.

Bring your journal.
Bring your expectations.
Bring your authentic self.

But most importantly, come ready to release what no longer serves your healing journey and make room for peace, purpose, freedom, and joy.

πŸ’œ I AM ENOUGH.
πŸ’œ I CHOOSE ME.
πŸ’œ STRONGER. WISER. ENOUGH.

πŸ’œ A Heartfelt Thank You πŸ’œ
The Board of Directors and Executive Director, Dr. Vernita Council-Howard, would like to extend our sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your participation in our Healing Is Your Portion Graduation Ceremony.

Thank you to our graduates for trusting the process, showing up for yourselves, and courageously choosing healing. Your testimonies, growth, and commitment have been an inspiration to us all.

Thank you to our speakers, volunteers, supporters, family members, community partners, and guests who joined us in celebrating this special milestone. Your presence, encouragement, and support helped make this event meaningful and memorable.

This graduation was more than a ceremonyβ€”it was a celebration of healing, restoration, resilience, and new beginnings. We witnessed lives transformed, voices reclaimed, and hope restored.

As we reflect on this incredible journey, we are reminded that healing is possible, growth is intentional, and no one has to walk the journey alone.

Thank you for believing in the vision, supporting the mission of Survivors With A Testimony (S.W.A.T.), and helping us create safe spaces where healing can take place.

We look forward to continuing this journey together and welcoming future participants into the next Healing Is Your Portion session.

With gratitude,

**** PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN FROM ONLINE PREDATORS ****

June is Internet Safety Month. To mark it, the national ICAC program has shared resources you can pass along to your community.

The NCICAAC Task Force is hosting a free webinar on keeping kids safe while playing online video games. It's aimed at parents who want a clearer picture of how online gaming works and where the risks are.

Topics include: talking to strangers online, how age verification works and where it breaks down, and how to check whether a game is age-appropriate. Parents will also learn how kids can accidentally share personal information through screen names and in-game chat, and why the difference between private and public servers matters.

The session will cover parental controls, privacy settings, and setting reasonable time limits. Sign up if you want practical steps you can take right away.

The North Carolina SBI work everyday to protect children from becoming victims of online predators. We hope you will participate in this FREE program to identify and protect your family as well. Put this on your calendar today!!!

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN NORTH CAROLINA: THE NUMBERS TELL A STORY

Domestic violence is not just a private matterβ€”it is a community issue that impacts families, children, workplaces, schools, and entire communities across North Carolina.

πŸ“Š From January 1 – May 14, 2026 North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence documented 27 Homicides, 4 Suicides that has been reported and connected to domestic violence incidents.

πŸ“Š By the end of 2025, the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence documented 66 murders and 19 suicides connected to domestic violence incidents.

Behind every statistic is a name.
Behind every number is a family.
Behind every report is a survivor whose life has been forever changed.

Domestic violence affects women, men, children, seniors, and individuals from every race, income level, faith, and community. Awareness saves lives. Education changes lives. Support restores lives.

Let's continue breaking the silence, supporting survivors, and creating communities where safety, healing, and hope are possible for everyone.

If you are a survivor, know this: You are not alone. Your story matters. Your healing matters.

πŸ’œ Today, we want to take a moment to honor the facilitator of our Healing Is Your Portion Journey, our very own Executive Director, Dr. Vernita Council-Howard. πŸ’œ

Years ago, God gave her a vision, but at the time she wasn't sure how it would all come together. This year, God reminded her of a promise she had made to Him. After experiencing her own healing journey, she realized it was time to fulfill that promise by helping others heal.

Dr. Vernita didn't just talk about healingβ€”she did the work. She invested in therapy, faced her pain, embraced her healing, and allowed God to transform her life. Along the way, she became a Certified Trauma-Informed Professional, Certified Inner Child Healing Coach, Certified Domestic Violence Advocate, Certified Christian Counselor, and Life Coach, equipping herself to serve others with excellence and compassion.

The Healing Is Your Portion Journey began with 14 participants. While 7 completed the journey, every life that entered was impacted by the seeds that were planted. The testimonies shared at graduation were evidence that healing truly is possible when faith, commitment, and support come together.

If you've ever met Dr. Vernita, you know she is unapologetically passionate about God. Her testimony is one of resilience, strength, courage, perseverance, and unwavering faith. She has turned her pain into purpose and her wounds into a ministry that is helping others find freedom.

Today, we pause to give her her flowers while she can still smell them. 🌹

Dr. Vernita Council-Howard, thank you for your obedience. Thank you for answering God's call. Thank you for creating safe spaces for healing, growth, and restoration. Because of your "yes," lives are being changed, chains are being broken, and survivors are discovering that healing is their portion.

We celebrate you today and look forward to seeing what God does through the next session and beyond.

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." β€” Galatians 6:9

πŸ’œ Congratulations on making an impact that will echo for generations to come.
