Meet Mike. 👋
Michael Parker was born and raised In Wilmington, Delaware to a single mother while his father was incarcerated, citing the lack of paternal guidance caused him to get in trouble at an early age. Exposed to violence and death early on, his family would move to Charlotte when he was 14 and a year later, Michael find himself in foster care.
At 16, he’d begin his cycle of repeated incarcerations, including a case at 19 where he’d robbed a drug pharmacy. Over the years, Michael began abusing narcotics which led to him having a seizure and being sent to rehab. He started selling drugs to survive and during that period, was stabbed and near death on multiple occasions.
Eventually he found himself in trouble with the law once more, but this time, being beaten and tased while handcuffed by multiple police officers. He defended his legal case and won and in that moment, he said he knew Allah gave him a second chance. Michael turned his pain to passion and started his own clothing line called “Hell On Earth” and says all those situations he’s been through made him appreciate life and realized how much he took for granted. “Growing up in poverty and not having a father always made me want to give back and be a mentor to young kids who go through the same things I did.”
Michael joined Revamp during the pandemic by helping cleaning efforts in Tent City and transitioning residents to the motels after the County’s evacuation notice and recently helped an released inmate secure housing and employment in less than a week of being out. He says as the organization grew, he fell in love with giving back and being involved while making a change and the rest is history.
In his spare time, Michael enjoys listening to music, watching 19 Keys and Earn Your Leisure, farming, meditating and consuming the teachings of Elijah Muhammad and any Black literature and historical content he can get his hands on.
