Wild Wednesdays with the Little Traverse Conservancy:
Pollinators and Native Plants

Wednesday, May 13
6:30 pm
Community Room A
All Ages

Join LTC environmental education staff at the Charlevoix Public Library for an evening exploring the intricate partnerships between northern Michigan's native plants and the insects that depend on them.

We'll look beyond the honeybee to meet the native bee species, flies, beetles, and moths quietly moving through our fields, roadsides, and forest edges each May and examine why the plants they evolved alongside are so much more than pretty flowers.

This all-ages program is designed for anyone who has ever stopped to watch something small moving through a flower and wondered what was really happening.

Upcoming Wild Wednesday programs:
June 10: Passenger Pigeons
July 1: Dunes and Northern Michigan Beach Habitats

"The Names" by Florence Knapp explores the profound impact of a mother's choice in naming her son, intertwining themes of identity, family dynamics, and the consequences of tradition.

Overview:
Set in October 1987, the novel follows Cora Atkin, a young mother grappling with the decision of what to name her newborn son. Her husband, Gordon, insists on naming the child after himself, a tradition that Cora finds oppressive and fears will bind her son to a lineage of domineering men. Cora contemplates alternative names, including Julian, which symbolizes freedom, and Bear, suggested by her daughter Maia, representing strength and gentleness. Ultimately, Cora chooses the name Bear, a decision that triggers a violent reaction from Gordon, leading to a series of events that profoundly affect their family over the years.
