This cow weather vane is one of those charming details around the Castle that connects us to the property’s agricultural roots. While it may no longer turn with the wind as it once could have, today it add a playful touch to the gardens—and serves as a fitting reminder that before there was a tourist destination, there was a dairy farm.

A little book, a unique table and chair set, and a cozy place to settle in as the temperature drops! 🍂

There’s something special about finding a quiet corner inside the Castle during the colder fall months; surrounded by historic details, beautiful craftsmanship, and a table and chair set with a character all its own. The perfect spot to sit for awhile and enjoy the season from inside the Castle! 🍂🏰

Some pieces of Castle Farms’ history came from a place you might not expect—the bottom of the lakes! 🌊

John VanHaver (the second owner of Castle Farms from 1962-1969) was an avid diver who explored both Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan, where he recovered pieces of shipwrecked wood and old chains from beneath the water. He later gave these salvaged materials a new life, transforming them into unique pieces of furniture that he displayed at Castle VanHaver.

And one of those pieces is still here today! This table sits in the Carriage Hall of the Knights Castle!

Today, diving for and removing materials from shipwrecks is heavily regulated and requires special permits, making this table an even more fascinating piece of Castle history. It’s more than just a piece of furniture; it’s a reminder of a time when John’s love of diving, craftsmanship, and history came together in an unexpected way! ⚓️🏰

A striking similarity between two castles, separated by thousands of miles! 🏰

Amboise Castle, a medieval Gothic fortress in the Loire Valley of France, features a distinctive series of five arches. When you look at these two photos side by side, that same detail immediately stands out.

The Queen’s Courtyard was inspired by Amboise Castle, incorporating its five-arch design as a subtle architectural connection to the French château. While the two castle may look quite different, this small detail connect Castle Farms to a piece of French architectural history! 🏰
