The Kings Gallery features 6 chess boards carved right into the floor — would you have noticed them?
It’s such a hidden detail that even many of our staff didn’t know it was there!

While we don’t typically keep the large chess pieces inside, you can still enjoy a full game on our two outdoor chess boards ♟️🏰

Built to stand strong — and still does! 🏰

What once was known as the Ice House now rises like a true castle keep, crowned with classic crenellated walls. Designed by Arthur Heun and inspired by castles throughout the French countryside, these notched stone edges once served a real purpose—giving archers places to take cover, peek through, and fire arrows while staying protected from incoming attacks.

Luckily, Castle Farms never had to defend against enemy forces—but the design still carries that same historic strength and story! 🏰

Built from the ground up – stone by stone! 🏰

Beginning in 1917, Albert Loeb set an ambitious plan into motion along the shores of Lake Charlevoix. With designs by renowned architect Arthur Heun, construction began on both “The Big House” and an expansive farm complex inspired by the stone farms of Normandy, France.

Native fieldstone was gathered from across the region and hauled to the site, where 35 skilled masons and local laborers worked tirelessly to shape each structure by hand. Under the direction of engineer R.F. Sloan, the project grew into a massive operation — complete with towering dairy barns, stables, a blacksmith shop, carriage house, and more.

The process was slow, detailed, and demanding — but in just 2 years, the vision stood complete! 🏰

A quiet piece of Castle history — or something a little more mysterious! 🏰

We believe this is where Lady Glassford’s ghost spends most of her afterlife.

During the construction of the Castle, a gentleman named Frank Glassford served as assistant to Robert Sloan, the construction assistant. His wife, who often spent her days on the farm during the early stages of building, tragically suffered from an infection in her finger and passed away.

Since then, many employees over the years have reported something unexplainable in this very hallway — soft, distant singing heard in the early morning hours when the building is still and empty.

Some say it’s just echoes of the past… others believe she never truly left! 🏰👻
