PSA: Zero Tolerance for Impaired Driving in Charlestown
The City of Charlestown does not tolerate impaired driving. If you come into our community and choose to drive under the influence, especially in a way that puts our residents, children, and families in danger; our officers will take action and make an arrest when probable cause exists.
On Friday, April 10, 2026, it is alleged that Wayne Schultz drove from Seymour to Charlestown and operated his vehicle off-road through Greenway Park while children and families were present. He then drove across a basketball court that was occupied by kids playing, before attempting to drive up a hill.
Thanks to alert Charlestown residents who called 911, officers were able to locate the vehicle in the parking lot of Greenway Park. After an investigation, officers established probable cause that the driver was operating while intoxicated. The suspect was taken into custody after resisting officers. During the investigation Mr. Schultz was uncooperative, resistive, and made multiple threats towards law enforcement and battered a Charlestown Officer.
