Right after our final Pirate Pride Parade, we had the absolute joy of welcoming the Charlestown High School Class of 2025 for their senior walk through the halls of Pleasant Ridge—one last time.

Dressed in their caps and gowns, these graduates were cheered on by our Lil’ Pirates, many of whom saw a glimpse of their own future. Even more special, several of the seniors once walked these same halls as Pleasant Ridge students themselves.

It was a full-circle moment—one filled with pride, joy, and even a few happy tears. What a beautiful reminder of how far our students can go and the lasting impact of our little school.

Today marked the end of an era.
We held our final Pirate Pride Parade—not just for the 2024–2025 school year, but the last ever at Pleasant Ridge Elementary.

Over the years, our Pirate Pride Parades have celebrated the best of our Lil’ Pirates—those who show Persistence, Respect, Initiative, Dependability, and Efficiency. These moments have built confidence, created memories, and helped shape the kind of students we’re proud to send into the world.

We’ve loved honoring our students and watching their faces light up each month. Though our time as PRES Lil’ Pirates is coming to a close, the values of Pirate Pride will carry on—especially as we begin our next chapter at Charlestown Elementary School.

Let’s take this spirit with us and continue to lead with pride—wherever we go!

Good morning, Lil’ Pirate Families!
Last night was one for the books! Our second-grade students danced the night away at their groovy end-of-year celebration—and what a night it was! From peace signs and flower power to laughter and unforgettable memories, the cafeteria was filled with joy.

This wasn’t just any dance—it was a bittersweet sendoff for the final class ever “graduating” from Pleasant Ridge Elementary. As we look ahead to the future, we celebrate the special moments that make our Lil’ Pirates family so unique.

A huge shoutout to Mrs. Teslin Tompkins for organizing such a memorable evening, and to all the staff and families who helped make the night a success!

We’re beyond proud of our students and so grateful for our community.

Peace, love, and Lil’ Pirate pride!

From Storybooks to Stuffies!
Thanks to the Greater Clark Educational Foundation GCEF*, our kindergarteners in Mrs. Mari Hobbs’ class teamed up with Charlestown High School for an unforgettable creative collaboration!
• Our Lil’ Pirates dreamed up the characters, settings, and illustrations.
• Mrs. Jenkins’ CHS English students brought the stories to life as authors.
• And Mrs. LaJoie’s CHS Sculpting Class turned the characters into real-life stuffies!

This project blended imagination, writing, and art—and the results were magical. Thank you to everyone who made it happen!

*Post updated 5/9/25 at 5:35 PM to thank the Greater Clark Educational Foundation for funding this project.

Writing to Change the World… One Paw at a Time

For the third year in a row, Mrs. Edmiston’s first-grade students at Pleasant Ridge Elementary partnered with the Jeffersonville Animal Shelter for a heartwarming writing project that gives back in the best way.

Tied to first grade writing standards, this real-world learning opportunity encourages students to write with purpose by crafting persuasive letters from the perspective of long-term shelter pets — using empathy, creativity, and voice to help these animals find loving homes.

This year’s featured pets are:
Luna, Bobbi, Sheba, Paulie, Bean, Benny, and Cricket!

These amazing animals have been waiting a little longer than most, and our Lil’ Pirates are doing their part to help them get noticed, loved, and hopefully adopted!

Please help us by commenting and sharing to spread the word — your engagement could help change a life.
