Celebrate Labor Day aboard USS Constitution!

On Monday, September 7th, USS Constitution will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in observance of Labor Day.

Come aboard “Old Ironsides” and explore this historic vessel while experiencing more than 228 years of U.S. Navy history.

All guests ages 18 and older must present a valid government-issued photo ID to board.

On Sept. 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed, formally ending the American Revolutionary War and recognizing the independence of the United States.

The treaty established the United States as an independent nation, securing its sovereignty and formally ending British rule over the former colonies.

More than two centuries of endurance.

Captured in black and white, these early 20th-century photographs offer a glimpse into another chapter of USS Constitution’s history.

When these images were taken, “Old Ironsides” had endured battles, crossed oceans, and witnessed generations of Sailors and Marines serving aboard her.

The world has changed, but Constitution remains. She continues to endure as the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat and a living connection between the Sailors and Marines of yesterday and those who serve today.

Honoring the past. Leading into the future.

USS Constitution welcomed Chief Petty Officers and Chief selectees from across the fleet aboard for the 2026 Chief Petty Officer Heritage Underway in Boston Harbor.

While underway aboard the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat, participants reflected on the legacy of the Chiefs Mess, the responsibility of wearing anchors and the traditions passed down through generations of Sailors.

USS Constitution welcomed Chief Petty Officers and Chief Petty Officer selectees aboard for our 2026 Chief Petty Officer Heritage Underway.

We were also honored to host a graduation ceremony for the Senior Enlisted Academy’s newest class - the first ceremony of its kind aboard “Old Ironsides!”

Today guests reflected on more than two centuries of naval service, the responsibility carried by the Chiefs Mess and those preparing to join its ranks, and the traditions that continue to guide generations of Sailors on the deckplates.

Back in Boston Harbor once again!

Come see USS Constitution underway today at approximately 10 a.m., or stop by to tour the ship afterward at the Charlestown Navy Yard.

“Old Ironsides” will render a 21-gun salute near Fort Independence at approximately 11:30 a.m., followed by a 17-gun salute in front of U.S. Coast Guard Base Boston at approximately 12:25 p.m.

The ship will open to the public from 3 to 6 p.m. following the underway.

Admission is free. Adults ages 18 and older must present a valid government-issued photo ID to board.

In August of 1940, at the request of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, USS Constitution was named one of two symbolic flagships of the U.S. Fleet, alongside USS Constellation.

President Roosevelt, a former assistant secretary of the Navy with a keen interest in early American naval history, made his first visit to the Charlestown Navy Yard in August of 1940.

As war spread across Europe and the United States rapidly expanded its Navy, the designation symbolically linked the modern fleet with the service, courage and traditions of generations of Sailors who came before.

Nearly 143 years after her launch, “Old Ironsides” once again stood as a symbol of the enduring strength and heritage of the U.S. Navy.

USS Constitution and her crew welcome Purple Heart recipients and their families aboard the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat for an underway in Boston Harbor.

On August 21st, 2026, USS Constitution was proudly designated as a Purple Heart Ship to honor generations of Americans wounded or killed in action in defense of our nation.

The courage, resilience and unwavering commitment of Purple Heart recipients continue to inspire us all.

NOTICE TO OUR GUESTS AND LOCAL RESIDENTS

USS Constitution has resumed daily gun salutes!

Following the completion of necessary maintenance, our saluting battery is once again operational, and the ship will resume firing during morning and evening colors.

Huzzah!

Come observe morning colors every day from the adjacent pier at 8 a.m., or evening colors each evening at sundown.

We are proud to once again carry on this longstanding naval tradition aboard “Old Ironsides.”
