✨Project Spotlight: Town of Fayetteville, WV

Next in our Project Spotlight series highlighting community projects supported through the West Virginia Office of Energy's Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program: the Town of Fayetteville.

Known for its outdoor recreation, local history, and community events like Bridge Day, Fayetteville is one of our very favorite small towns!

With support from our EECBG Program, Fayetteville will be replacing just under 100 ballfield lights across three fields at Fayetteville Park with new energy-efficient LED lighting. These upgrades will help reduce energy use, lower long-term operating costs, and improve lighting quality at these well-loved community spaces!

💡Did you know?

The Hawks Nest Tunnel in Fayette County is one of West Virginia’s major hydropower operations.

Built in the early 1930s, the tunnel diverts water from the New River through Gauley Mountain to a hydroelectric facility near Alloy, helping power industrial operations that are still part of the state’s energy story today.

The project is also remembered as one of the nation’s worst industrial disasters, after hundreds of workers died from silicosis caused by silica dust exposure during construction.

✨Project Spotlight: Theatre West Virginia

Next in our Project Spotlight series highlighting community projects supported through the West Virginia Office of Energy's Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program: Theatre West Virginia.

Founded in 1955, Theatre West Virginia is a legacy arts organization that brings live theatre, storytelling, and youth training opportunities to southern West Virginia. Its Grandview performances have become an important part of the region’s arts, history, and tourism landscape.

With support from our EECBG Program, Theatre West Virginia completed a series of energy efficiency upgrades, including new appliances, windows, lighting, and storm doors.

These improvements are expected to reduce energy use, lower monthly utility costs, and create a more comfortable, functional space for performers, staff, and visitors.
