Our Honey Do Crews are a small but mighty team of volunteers who focus on making modifications to help older neighbors stay safe in their homes.

While we don't build ramps, repair roofs, or tackle odd jobs, the impact these volunteers have on a person's ability to live independently - safely - cannot be overstated.

Pictured are a couple of examples of recent work done by our Honey Do Crews to ensure our older neighbors can do everyday things the rest of us tend to take for granted - like enter and exit their homes, get in and out of the shower, or step down off their porch - with confidence.

If you are a bit handy and would like to learn more about how you can work with our Honey Do volunteers to install grab bars, place handrails, or other small projects to aid in accessibility, message us today. Our crew will welcome you with friendly faces and lots of good ideas for helping others! 😊

What a sweet night! 🍰❤️

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Sweet Charity 2026 and helped make it such a special evening! From the incredible desserts to the music, activities, laughter, and friendly competition, we hope you had as much fun as we did.

A huge thank-you to our nine amazing bakers, our generous sponsors, our wonderful volunteers, our judges, musician and emcee, and everyone who helped bring this event to life. Most of all, thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy a night of sweetness while supporting Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley and the older neighbors we serve.

You know? Sometimes life gives you a big sign that the future is bright.

This afternoon, these two young ladies - Macie and Amelia - made a surprise visit to the office with their grandmother, Connie. We chatted for a while about what Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley is, what we do, who we help, and how.

Then they handed me a donation that nearly moved me to tears.

It seems they'd saved up their money, and with a little assistance from grown ups in their life who have clearly taught them the power of giving back, decided to make a financial gift to us.

Out of the blue.

You could have knocked me over with a feather with their act of generosity and kindness. But it doesn't surprise me in the least to know our children are modeling the community that raises them up.

That's what happens when you come from a place where the size of a person's heart is what really matters and neighbors taking care of neighbors is a way of life.

Our work team from the University of Charleston did amazing things in a short amount of time during their event yesterday.

Our front office got a facelift. The chaos garden got loaded with a massive amount of tulip bulbs. Our picnic tables got sealed. And our September care receiver newsletter got prepped for mailing!

What a team. What a day. What a difference!

Thank you for including us, UC. You’ve sure brightened up our little corner of the world!

It's Labor Day and the first Monday of a brand new month. You know what that means! Let's get into what's going on around here in the next few weeks.

1. TODAY a work team from the University of Charleston will be here tackling several projects for us. They are giving our new (to us) expanded space a fresh coat of paint. They'll be getting our park ready for Fall. And they'll be prepping some newsletters for mailing. It's going to be a short flurry of big activity and I can't wait to show you the final results!

2. We have a Board meeting coming up. It's a little later in the month than is typical, but on September 23rd we'll gather with a couple of special guests, focused on the growth and sustainability of our organization for years to come.

3. Our volunteer picnic happens toward the end of the month. We always enjoy this time so much! It's the one chance a year for our volunteers to be in the same space at the same time, to meet each other, share experiences, and break bread together. Besides, the covered dishes they share? Some of the best food I eat all year. 😂

4. We're still coming down from the sugar high of Sweet Charity. There's some packing up to do, a little debriefing with the planning committee to make notes for next year, and lots and lots of thank you notes to be written. And I still have lots of pics to share, too!

5. We were notified of our NIP credits award a couple of weeks ago, and I am humbled to let you know that we have used 93% of our allocation already. 🥹 We have the absolute BEST community, and we don't take that for granted one single second, ever. There are a few more Sweet Charity posts to come, because how could there not be? But I need to interrupt the flow today to address another big moment in the life of Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley.

Debbie Wolf has been our LifeBridge AmeriCorps Program volunteer onsite for two years. In that time, she's learned so much about our program, our volunteers, our care receivers, and the Faith in Action way.

The older neighbors we serve have come to view her as a trusted voice on the other end of the phone. Someone who can reassure them, redirect them, listen to them, connect with them.

Morgan and I have come to view her as a nearly indispensable third leg to our table, holding down the fort when we aren't here, handling assigned tasks efficiently, and generally taking care of business in ways that freed us up to grow.

Tomorrow will be her last day with us, as her term expires.

It's going to be bittersweet, to say the least.

Thank you, Debbie, for caring for our people with your whole heart and for always wanting the best for this organization. Morgan and I will miss you, as will all those you served in your time here.

We are grateful our paths crossed and wish you all good things in your next chapter.

I sure didn't envy the judges their task last night. While EVERY entrant deserves honors for the incredible desserts they delighted us with, these folks walked away with the hardware.
