🚒 APPARATUS SPOTLIGHT: COMMAND VEHICLES 🚒

We’re putting the spotlight on five command vehicles within the Charleston Fire Department fleet: four Battalion Chief vehicles and one Division Chief vehicle!

These 2025 Ford F-150 Special Service Vehicles were designed and upfitted in-house by our Fleet Services team, working alongside a build committee of three Operations Battalion Chiefs. From the custom Havis center console to the Whelen Engineering emergency lighting, every detail was designed with functionality, visibility, and the needs of our command staff in mind.

The vehicles feature 3.5L EcoBoost Twin Turbo V6 engines, Whelen lighting and Core control technology, Arges spotlights, Howler speakers, custom ARE DCU caps, and Decked CargoGlide storage systems. The black-over-red paint, gold lettering, and custom graphics pay tribute to the traditional look of Charleston Fire Department apparatus.

A big thank you to our Fleet Services team and everyone involved in bringing these vehicles to life! 🔥

🛑 STOP means STOP.🚌

When a school bus has its stop sign extended, you must stop. No matter how much of a hurry you're in, getting there a few minutes faster is never worth risking a child's life.

Children are getting on and off the bus, crossing the street, and moving through our neighborhoods. As drivers, we have a responsibility to protect them.

Charleston, let's look out for the kids in our community. ❤️ Slow down, stay alert, and STOP for the school bus.

Because getting home safely is always more important than getting there quickly. 🚒🚌

City of Charleston, SC Government City of Charleston Police Department

The South Carolina Department of Public Health has notified Charleston County Mosquito Control (CCMC) of confirmed positive West Nile virus (WNV) cases in Charleston County.

In response, CCMC is taking additional measures to reduce adult mosquito populations and limit the potential spread of WNV.

Residents can help reduce their risk of mosquito-borne illness by taking the following precautions:
- Drain standing water around your home that can serve as a breeding site for mosquitoes.
- Avoid outdoor activity, when possible, during dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
- Dress to deter mosquitoes by wearing long sleeves and long pants when outdoors.
- Defend yourself by using an effective, EPA-registered insect repellent.
- Maintain doors and window screens in good condition to keep mosquitoes outdoors.

Home is where we should feel safest, but fires can happen when we least expect them. Take a few minutes to make sure your home and family are prepared. 🏠

✔️ Test your smoke alarms regularly
✔️ Keep anything that can burn away from heat sources
✔️ Never leave cooking unattended
✔️ Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn
✔️ Have a fire escape plan and practice it with your family
✔️ Know two ways out of every room, when possible
