It is the mission of the Charleston Police Department to serve all people within our jurisdiction with respect, fairness, and compassion. We are committed to the protection of life and property; the preservation of peace, order, and safety; the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws; and the defense
of the Constitution of the State of South Carolina and the Constitution of the United States of America in a fair and impartial manner. The purpose of Official Charleston Police Department social media accounts is to present matters of public interest. We encourage you to submit questions, comments, and concerns, but please keep in mind that our social media platforms are limited public forums. The police department reserves the right to remove comments or postings that violate applicable laws. Postings on our platforms are subject to public records laws and may be subject to disclosure under the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act. The police department does not endorse nor sponsor any advertising posted by the social media host site on the police department's page. Social media platforms are private sites, and the host site's privacy policy, terms of service, and community standards apply. The police department does not guarantee the reliability and accuracy of any third-party links. Comments, opinions, pictures, or videos posted by visitors to CPD’s pages do not reflect the opinions of the police department. Comment Policy
We welcome your comments and hope that our conversations here will be courteous. We do not discriminate against any views; we, however, reserve the right to delete any of the following:
• Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination based on race, creed, color, age, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation.
• Graphic, violent, vulgar, profane, obscene, or explicit comments or submissions or comments that are abusive, threatening, hateful, or intended to defame anyone or any organization or comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity
• Content posted by persons whose profile picture or avatar, username, or e-mail address contains any of the aforementioned
• Off-topic comments
• The violation of the privacy of another individual
• Solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any financial, commercial, or non-governmental agency
• Attempts to defraud any person, financial, commercial, or governmental agency
• Comments promoting or opposing any person who is campaigning for election to a political office or promoting or opposing any ballot proposition
• Comments including phone numbers, email addresses, residential addresses, or personal similar information
• Multiple, successive off-topic posts by a single user or repetitive posts copied and pasted by multiple users
You participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, username, and any information provided. CPD reserves the right to remove or block users who violate the Charleston PD Terms of Use upon notification and repeated violations. Accounts determined to be spam will not be notified. The police department reserves the right to report users to the social media platform for violations of the host site’s policies. Any content removed will be archived as required by law. This Policy is subject to amendment or modification at any time to ensure its continued use is consistent with its intended purpose as a limited forum.
