Thank you everyone who has given such strong support to me and this campaign. We came up short two nights ago. However, we ran a hard campaign, and we did everything within our power to win this election. I’m proud of the work we’ve done and the race we ran.
While I’m disappointed in the outcome of the primary election, I’m optimistic for the future of West Virginia, and I’m optimistic for the future of America. From Jackson County to Jefferson County, we met hard working West Virginian's who are tired of the partisan bickering and political gridlock plaguing our government in Washington and here in Charleston. They’re speaking out and saying enough in enough. I’ve learned that while our politics have become dysfunctional, our people certainly are not. The Mountaineers I’ve had the pleasure of meeting these past three months on the trail are hardworking, decent people, who go to work each day, play by the rules, and provide for their families. I am proud West Virginia is my home, and I'm confident these values which unite us as West Virginians and as Americans will trump the negativity in our politics.
Over the course of this race I’ve had the fortune of meeting great people from all over our state who opened their hearts and their homes to me and this campaign. Many people have gone above and beyond in the support they’ve shown. To them I say thank you. I am forever grateful to the new friends I’ve made and the help they’ve given. John Kennedy once said, “the sun does not always shine in West Virginia, but the people always do.” While the sun may not be shining on our campaign today, I have seen these past three months its true the people of the Mountain State always do.
Very Respectfully,
Cory Simpson
