The Capital Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), a facet of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department (KCHD), is a 400+ volunteer base that aims at serving the medial and sometimes non-medical needs of Kanawha County and the City of Charleston. n helping the community prepare for, respond to, and mitigate emergencies, disasters, and pressing public health needs by providing a group of readily trained and available volunteer professionals who supplement and assist local medical emergency responses. This may include assisting mass prophylaxis/vaccination clinics and other major public health needs. We recruit medical and non-medical personnel including nurses, nurse practitioners, veterinarians, pharmacists, doctors, chiropractors, data clerks, physician assistants, dentists, and other community members in the county. Needless to say, all occupations are needed and welcome to join. The MRC volunteers are included in and are a vital part in exercises planned by the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. All volunteers are asked to register on the West Virginia Responder Emergency Deployment Information (WV-REDI) system to verify any credentials (i.e., medical volunteers) and to receive notification if your assistance is needed in a real-world event. This is a crucial step in your volunteerism with the Capital MRC.
