Visitors to Herbert and Gloria Jones Woodland Trails now have two new places to pause and take in the outdoors.

Morgan and Laurel of Girl Scout Troop 1839 constructed two tables through their Operation Picnic Table project, an accessible table near the trailhead and another along Treehouse Trail, creating places for visitors to rest, read, eat or simply enjoy nature.

Supported through Mayor Goodwin’s Hearts of Our Neighborhood initiative, the project reflects the impact young people can have in their community while helping make Charleston’s outdoor spaces more inviting and encouraging new and returning visitors to spend more time on the trails connecting with nature.

🏃‍♀️🎶🥒 A full weekend is ahead in Charleston!

With two 5Ks, Pickle Palooza, the Ella Langley concert, and more happening around the city, it’s shaping up to be a busy weekend in Charleston.
If you’re heading downtown—or traveling along one of the race routes—a little planning can help keep you moving.

🚧 Weekend traffic impacts include:
• Rolling closures for the Rainbow Run 5K
• Summers Street closure for Pickle Palooza
• A lane closure along Clendenin Street for the Ella Langley concert
• Kanawha Boulevard, Capitol Street, and Summers Street closures for Leah’s Legacy 5K, 2-Mile Walk & Kids Fun Run

With two road races taking place this weekend, please be especially mindful of runners and walkers, watch for temporary and rolling closures, and allow a little extra travel time.

As we prepare for race day, we want to make sure folks know what to expect Friday and Saturday, including race activities and traffic impacts.

🚧 Traffic Impact: Kanawha Boulevard Closure (Court St to Capitol St)
Packet Pickup & Children’s Fun Run

Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026 - RACE DAY
🚧 Traffic Impact: Kanawha Blvd Closure extends (Court St to Chesapeake Ave).
🚧 Rolling closures will be in place along the race routes. If you’re traveling around the City, please plan ahead, allow extra time, and stay alert for runners along the course.
