On September 24, Kangkang Kovacs will headline the first swamp pink literary journal reading of the year, an event co-sponsored by Charleston Literary Festival and the College of Charleston MFA Program in Creative Writing. Kangkang graduated from the CofC MFA Creative Writing Program program in 2023, and her debut novel, NOTHING TO MY NAME, came out this summer with Viking Books. We couldn’t be happier to join Charleston Literary Festival in welcoming Kangkang back to campus!

We hope you'll join us September 24 to welcome CofC MFA Creative Writing Program alum Kangkang Kovacs back to campus, in celebration of her debut novel, NOTHING TO MY NAME, out now from Viking Books. The novel spans the past hundred years of Chinese history, exploring the experiences of three generations of Chinese women. As T Kira Madden notes, "NOTHING TO MY NAME lives honestly in its history—foolhardy and loving and yet uncharted. A formidable and astonishing new voice.”

Kangkang will read from her novel and take your questions about her creative process and path. After the reading, copies of NOTHING TO MY NAME will be available for purchase and signing by the author. We’d love to see you there!
